The 'disappearing' bottom interface is a feature, not a bug
The three coloured bars represent health, mana and stamina. You can go back to the normal interface by right-clicking on the bars.

The healing spells go "vita mortis cario" or "life death flesh".
Divination spells go "scio didici ecco" most of the time and mean "I know, I divine (as in guess), I see". All the words are (derived from) ancient Latin.

All the items you need for the riddle are in the chests, they're not given to you by the imps.

As I don't remember Aerie being able to memorize 9th level spells, I presume you're using scrolls in combination with project image or simulacrum for the chain contingency spell ?

IMO, the most efficient 'strategy' against Umber Hulks is a Death spell. Instant kill.

Since you're an elf, go for longswords. It makes sense RPG-wise, you get an extra + 1 to hit and there are really good longswords available right from start (Daystar being one of my favorites).

ok maybe i'm splitting hairs here but isn't it a strange idea that you could hide in shadows when in slayer form (from a RP PoV)? i mean, that slayer thing is so huge and ugly, it seems rather unlikely it would go unnoticed. consequently, it would be possible with aid of an invisibility spell (again ...

Does anyone know if PC alignment and/or charisma have any effect on the outcome of these conflicts/dialogs ?

i've had Keldorn with Viconia in a party, and Minsc with Edwin too. They never did much more than barf at each other, sometimes intervened by my PC, which was in both occasions Neutral Good with 19 charisma (not sure if this matters in these conflicts). so i'd say there can be problems with those ...

If i'm not mistaken there's a merchant in Waukeen's Promenade who can upgrade the Horn of Blasting. I'd have to check some walkthroughs though just be sure i'm not giving you any false hope :D
