Cheats tend to ruin the game once you know how to use them. I steer clear of them at all costs.

I hate it when my game crashes so I save as often as I can possibly remember to do so. I also keep a base save of important events that have passed. Especially the save right before you exit the sewers for the first time.

I would have to say that Umbra is massivley effective if you tend to follow the mages guild. It is also satisfying to be able to capture souls Although it might be VERY hard to obtain if you are a lower level.
