I get the impression that you've played DA:O for a few hours and got bored of all the talking and scene setting, when you simply just wanted to get started with the hacking and the slashing.

The origin story is essentially the pre-game. It's a prologue, so of course it leads you to where you need to go. If you say "no" to being a Grey Warden, your story essentially ends then and there.
