Every time I got ambushed was after I had completed some part of main quest of chapter 2. If you keep checking back with the random Named Peeps in the Inn, they will tell you different mean looking people are looking for you.

Well I never made it past the tomb with the 6 swords. heh heh that was a gnarly suprise. However, I did find the "First" tomb's artifact. There is an evil dude in the whore house of the city (sorry don't remember the name). He is the one who offers to buy the artifacts off of you ...
