Tomb quest

Post by skywise »

Been to all 4 Tombs in chapter 1, recovered all artifacts, hauled them all to Oleff in the temple, journal claims i am still 1 artifact short :P
What gives? I thought the tomb quest was done once you got all the items out of the 4 tombs.
What am I missing? Invisible item?

Did Oleff give you the amulet of will, acknowledging that you completed the quest? If he did, then it's a moot point...btw, it's 3 artifacts out of 3 tombs...rusted armor, journal, and some other thing I can't remember off-hand. The fourth tomb doesn't have an artifact to give to Oleff, just the items you need to open the other tombs.

I do have an amulet of will +3, might have come of Oleff.
Just wish the damn quest was moved to the solved pile.

*Spoiler* ?

Well I never made it past the tomb with the 6 swords. heh heh that was a gnarly suprise. However, I did find the "First" tomb's artifact. There is an evil dude in the whore house of the city (sorry don't remember the name). He is the one who offers to buy the artifacts off of you. (rather than giving them to the priest). If you talk with him you will find he snarfed some stuff from the prison area tomb. He has the dead scribe's Feather Pin. Being a chaotic neutral person i just threatened him for it and he gave it up. Lost some points toward evil (oh well). I would imagine you could pick pocket it off of him.

I was playing a fighter and still did not have a chance against the 6 flaming swords - my solution was to chug a quick potion of invisibility and strut right on by :)

My strategy too. :D Has anyone managed to defeat those swords? I finally finished the game, and that battle was the only one I couldn't do. That and the intellect devourer were the only difficult battles in the game, I thought. And both in Chapter 1! :D :D :D

[Nygma reconsiders:] Okay, those two battles AND the undefeatable acid traps! (Yes, I'm still whining about those. "Reflex save vs. acid: Success. (18 + 22 = 40; DC = 25)" "Monk with improved evasion takes 50 acid damage." My 20th level monk was more concerned about those @!#^&* acid traps than a half-dragon balor! :p )

Hm I didn't even consider the guy with the evil offer in the Mask. Well, too late now, quest wasn't important anyway it seems :)

About the swords, my monk and Tomi beat those swords and here is how:
First time in I got a butt whoopin, being the fast learner that i am I immediately changed my tactics.
Usually when you enter a room through loading of a new area you will find that your henchman has already engaged the enemy by the time you get to see the room, so I left Tomi to fight the swords and ran straight towards the sarcophagus and looted it.
By this time Tomi had already bought yet another farm (dunno what he's planning on doing with all that real estate) and I just used the recall stone to deliver the artifacts.
Saved the game, got Tomi back and entered the portal. By chance I discovered that next to the coffin is a good place to fight the swords since they can't crowd you there (only so much space next to the coffin). Tomi died about 3-4 times and I recalled to get him back, but eventually the swords died.
BTW those swords are WAY tougher than the intellect devourer (IMHO that is).

I was playing a cleric. A nice hammer of god spell stunned them all and then me, Tomi, and my skeleton warrior went to work, it was fairly easy. I guess I just got lucky that they all got stunned. I took out 3 before the stun went away, I still had to drink a bunch of healing potions after that.

My guy was a fighter/rogue, with a few points in use magical device. After dying a few times, it occured to me that I needed a change in tactics (took a while, I know :D ). This time I chugged a bunch of potions beforehand (barkskin, bull's strength, haste, etc.), but most importantly I used an elemental shield scroll I happened to have. So every time they hit me they took a nice bit of damage. With Tomi pelting them with arrows, and me going after them inbetween potion chugging, they went down without too much of a problem. But then again, this was the last task I did in Ch. 1, so I was fairly high level.

I played fighter and defeated them by using dirty tactics. Enter through door, engage one sword and kill it. Exit. Rest. Enter ...

Being an unintelligent Half-Orc barbarian that I am, I just fought. I used Tomi and just fought, died, transported back, fought some more, died again, etc. After the first three went down, it started to get easier. I died about 10 times and lost a LOT of exp, but hey, I just kill some more and get it back.

Beating the swords

My mage and my henchman, big half orc guy, beated the swords thus :
I cast imp. bulls strength on the orc, and a fireball in the midst of the swords, killing two and wounding two others.
Then i just M&M'ed the one immune to fire, it was a short fight!

Mmm...spells of mass destruction. I didn't have any scrolls of those, though. :p
