Well 80 AE is really A LOT. I think my Jakoon (pure caster for me too) Was 80 only near the end of the game and with all the bonus items equipped.
Don't forget to raise attributes too to your caster

Well that fight is really hard to beat expecially if (like me) you took Jaakon in the party (as you said unless you use a rune spellcaster becomes an handicap).

You can learn Fatal Thrust from the master in the thieves guild in Nadoret (You must be a Thief or have Cano in your party to be allowed to enter).
You can learn Hammerblow in Nadoret from the captain of the city guard, as well as many other skills.
