Demon battle in Elven Ruin?
Demon battle in Elven Ruin?
Well, i'm sort of hardcore gamer so I always play on the hardest difficulty...and this habit has got me into trouble with some games like Space Rangers 2: reboot (urg, but i could beat it in the end)...But this battle in Drakensang: The river of time...I seriously can't even cheese or do anything on this battle...i want to win this fight without using any rune...but i can't seem to damage the demon well enough. I think he has like 1k HP, but i could only damage him 5-7 with my best char wielding the best weapon possible at this time (a spear 1D6+6, adding my strength in, i have 1D6+ 12 or something). Since the demon drains your mana, my spellcaster is a handicap now...the only thing that really work on this demon is my char tank the demon and other char use flaming arrow to get the demon on fire (it lose 1hp/sec for 10 secs) but not every hit will hit...so any tips to win this fight flawlessly?
Well that fight is really hard to beat expecially if (like me) you took Jaakon in the party (as you said unless you use a rune spellcaster becomes an handicap).
First of all i think it's almost an useless pain to try to beat it without using any rune. The bonus is get is not much worth your efforts. Money wont be a problem in the game (and by now you can already farm few fairy dust at elven forest to earn 15D each) and you can get the ring later defeating another boss. So i suggest you to use 2 runes: one to lower his HP and another one to lower his defense and prevent healing.
For what i saw one of the most effective skill againt him is the Phex miracle for throwing stars which deals a nice damage to him.
I beated him at normal difficulty using 2 runes with me (a 2h soldier), forgrimm (axe and shield), Cano (using throwing stars) and jaakon (just to cast couple of damag espells before to go out of AE) without much effeort and using only a couple of berry potions so i can guess with those 2 runes at hard difficulty it should be done with bit more effords.
I found only 4 hard abttles in the whole game: that deomn, the pre-final boss and the 2 bosses in philasseon's secret. Anyway if im not wrong u cna lower the difficulty level to normal at any time during the game.

Thanks for the answer, Yoshi...I meant Darkless It's quite a hard (maybe impossible) battle to do on difficult so yeah, maybe I should reduce the difficulty.
As you suspected, i took Jaakon with me and made him a pure mage with 80 mana + a vest of mana regeneration) but the demon just seems to drain every bit of mana out so he's a total handicap now.
I'm curious about the Fairy dust farm O_O. Can you tell me a little more about it? Sorry it's my first time playing The River Of Time so I am quite a noob.
I did use throwing star on the demon and it hits for like 4-7 damages which is nice but nowhere near enough :{
And do you know the stats of the reward (it's a ring?)
You played philasseon's secret already? Is it as good as the original and River of time? Man, i really love these kind of game. Wish there were more!

Well 80 AE is really A LOT. I think my Jakoon (pure caster for me too) Was 80 only near the end of the game and with all the bonus items equipped.
Don't forget to raise attributes too to your caster
All the rewards can e found in the walkthrough here on GB, anyway:
1 seal: Recipe for Demon Armor
2 seals: 5D, Recipe for Demon Armor
3 seals: 20D, Recipe for Demon Armor
4 seals: 70D, Recipe for Demon Armor
5 seals: 70D, Recipe for Demon Armor, Ring of Magical Power
The ring gives you +10 AE and bonus to Ball of lighting Spell, and maby +1 INT, not sure about this. You can find another ring like that later in the game so it's not really worth the efforts imho.
To farm the fairy dust you need A LOT of patience. You must go to the forest behind the elven village and hang around the circle of strange stones. A kind of will 'o wisp will appear. Use Cano to go in stealth mode and walk toward it pointing to the stones (the light must be between you and the stones in other words). You are supposed to "push" the fairy into the circle. If you manage to do it (it will take 3-4 steps each time and can be really annoying) the fairy will teleport inside the circle then disappear and leave fairy dust on the ground. Grab it and sell it for about 15D. You can do that as many time as you wish, just hang around for a while till another fairy spawns. I farmed more than 500D that way.
The expansion is totally focused on combat. I did it when i was already level 12 and with great equip so it's been quite easy for me, beside the final boss which needed some efforts. Don't try it under level 10 or you'll get owned. Anyway it is divided in 3-4 chapters and at te end of each one you come back to the original map and you can go on with the original game then take it back later.

lol, i managed to kill him on the hardest difficulty! It works for me using:
1) Trap (bear trap can cause around 20 damages to the demon)
2) Fire to damage him over time. (summoning Fire elemental and Fire Arrow)
And you are right, the reward is not that worth the trouble (i think it took me like 5 big mana potions, 10-12 Healing potion and around 40 traps XD (you can only place 5 traps at one time but you can still place traps when the demon is seeing you so just go ahead and lay some more!) The most damaging (and AoL) attack of the demon can be avoid when he's charging so if you have potions and regen potions then the demon can be killed!
Cheers!
