I agree it's obsessed with 2H swords much to the disgust of my longsword wielding fighter/thief.

Apart from the two I bought, none of the items were any use to me, they were either less useful than things they would replace or the wrong sort of weapons (none of my characters specialised in them). I don't understand the obsession in this game with magical spears, if you have to have a 2 ...

No, you are right, he was born in SA, maybe the second place I was thinking of is just another where he lived or where his parents lived before they moved to SA. I've only been past it a couple of times, but the plaque definitely mentions his name and something to do with birth.

No, I'm in Birmingham in UK, where Tolkien lived most of his life. His family still live round here, they regularly have one of them (his son or grandson I think) on the local TV.

Everybody says they have such wonderful magic items, but either I'm missing something or I have too many magic items already. The only items I bought from either of them (the only 2 useful items as far as my party was concerned) was the Robe of Vecna and the +5 sling that doesn't need bullets ...

For all you Tolkien fans, about a mile up the road from where I live is a house with a plaque on the front of it that reads "J.R.R. Tolkien, author of Lord of the Rings lived here.". About 2 miles away is another plaque on the front of a modern building marking where the huose he was born in used to ...

The problem is that BG2 is a game that has to appeal to the masses just like any other. Most people wouldn't be happy trudging round with a +1 short sword for 90% of the game, and Black Isle wouldn't make any money on it.

It's a long time since I've played PnP AD&D, but to play properly back then ...

Bridge District. Possible Spoilers

I have finished BG2 a couple of times, but there are still 2 places in the Bridge district I don't understand.

1. Behind door at x=4000 y=1500 there is a party of 4 including at least 1 mage who attack you on sight, but they don't seem to be part of any quest.

2. Building nearest to northern exit ...

I've always played Chaotic Neutral. No problems that way, you can justify doing just about anything. I always seem to end up having a 20 reputation though which menas I should really be annoyed with myself.

I quite often RTFM for games like this. In this case I RTFM to find out whether there was actually some mention of the constitution bonuses.

You're right, I was thinking of Amonen, even if he isn't a Paladin, he acts so much like one he might as well be one.

How's this for balance in the game:-

Carsomyr, +5 2H sword usable only by Paladins is worth about 5,000GP if I try selling it.
Unholy Reaver, +5 2H sword usable only by ...

That's why I play a F/T, because it's such a useful combination. I can lead the party, have good HP, AC and attacking capabilities, detect traps while leading and I don't need to bother bringing up another party member to remove traps or open locks for me. In BG1 and early BG2 it's even ...

No kits for multiclass I can understand, kits are for specialists in a specific class, while studying in their specialisation, they wouldn't have time to study for their 0other classes.

IMO BG2 has been too heavily weighted towards fighters, and particularly Paladins (the fact that 2 of ...

I agree on that, from what I remember of AD&D, the bag of holding has a weight limit, not an item limit.

1. I haven't played P&P AD&D for over 16 years, but for 3 years before that, a group of us used to play for 30+ hours over a weekend, every 2 or 3 weeks. I regularly played with characters of level 10+, my best was a fighter/cleric which I retired off when it was 13th & 14th level ...
