I still haven't decided which type of party to play. At best I think my alignments will mostly be neutral.

If I can, I'd like to have a party of just fighter and a rogue though. I don't even want to use clerics if I can avoid it, but I have to have healing.

I definitely don't want to mess with sorcerers and wizards however. I don't want to contemplate which spells to take and use, I just want to fight ...

I'm also starting an evil party. I also think it will be more fun. I just haven't decided if I'm using the default evil party, or forming my own.

I have started with a Drow male rogue/wizard. I decided to add a wild elf female sorcerer. I'm considering dualling her in bard for healing spells.

I ought to make a classic Drizzt party though:
Drow male wizard/ranger
Dwarf fighter
Human barbarian
Halfling rogue

All of my research for soloing IWDII indicates sorcerer is practically the ONLY successful choice.

I've reconsidered my choices and I think I am indeed going to take a pre-made party for the ultimate role-playing. And for that, I'm choosing the Hands of Fury party, the all-evil party.
After reading their bios, I think they will be great great fun to play!
I'll post some results on here as I go ...

I started a solo adventure, with a Drow male. I started him as rogue for opening locks, then levelled him to wizard at 2.
I decided though to add a wild elf female, and make her a sorcerer. This way they both get their favored class.

I had NWN, but the desktop I owned at the time fried, and my laptop only had a 16m video card, so I sold NWN. I have since gotten a new desktop with a 64m video card, but as of yet I have not re-purchased NWN.
Between IWDII, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Arcanum and Morrowind, I figure I'll be busy for ...

That sounds good. I could make one Drow to be a sorcerer and the rest dwarves, with a gray as a rogue since they get the silent ability.

I might just try making them all fighters with two of them clerics however, since clerics are pretty good fighters in 3rd edition rules.

I just like the idea of ...

I think it would be cool to have one command character, and the ability to have that one give the orders to the others, in verbal style.
Their characters would react accordingly, rather than me clicking on each character and manipulating them.

I think that kind of free-form would take too much ...

An all-Drow party sounds good. I'd just rest during the day.
Drows I believe are the only other race besides dwarves that resist magic, so that would work too.

The only problem with the suggestion is I do not want to use wizards or sorcerers. I don't really even want to use clerics, but I don't see ...

same-race party, or non-magic party

Has anyone attempted to play using a party where all the characters are from one race?
Such as 6 dwarven fighters?
Or, failing that, a party of no magic users except for clerics?
In fantasy books, parties of adventurers that are the same (dwarven or elven parties, the hobbits in LOTR for a time ...

If the game was designed for one or two characters by themselves, pausing and issuing manual orders would be just fine. It gets annoying having to keep track of 6 characters all the time though, especially if a battle gets heated and they start taking off in different directions. I'd rather control ...

The only bad thing about human is, (as I found out with a bunch of human fighters) they have no resistance at all to magical attacks.

what about a Paladin?

Would a paladin be a good character for soloing? I'm considering it, because I just don't want to control and keep track of 6 different characters. I might possibly go with as many as 3, but I'd love to try it solo also.

Other than to track the days and months, why is there a game clock? I haven't paid any attention to it at all, and I've read that I can take my time, that there is no set limit to anything.

As for my style, I'm trying an all-melee party, with just a cleric for healing.

My party is led by Zima, a ...

Well, for what it's worth, I decided to stop thinking about forming just a combat party and I went ahead and did it. I'll just see how far I can get.
My party is led by Zima, a half-elf female bard. She has the charisma and diplomacy skills, plus a feat in the bow.

The rest of the party:

Beckah ...
