Is becoming a Vampire a good thing?

Post by Uberpwner »

I ask this question because I started a new character (Khajiit). Got him up to lvl 4 and became a vampire through the Dark Brotherhood quests. I eventually became the listener (Lvl 7) and the whole vampire thing gives me fortified attributes but I still have to feed or else I will end up dead. So I am asking would it be worth it to stay a vampire or should I get the cure?
I am that person who kills you every time in multiplayer and for some reason you just can't kill me.

Yep. You don't know what it will be like having to avoid sunlight EVERY DAY! When I was one, I would come out of a castle or something, then suddenly get damaged from the sunlight. So having that disease makes it so you can never stand in sunlight, wait or sleep in sunlight, or do ANYTHING in sunlight at all. I would seek a cure. Theres an easy way to get cured if you download the "Dunbarrow Cove." <---Spelling?

For me, it's definitely no.
The aging effect is very annoying, but yours isn't human so this effect won't be too bad.
Sun Damage is the worst, if you want to receive the greater stat bonus, then you will be stuck with this "additional bonus"

But if you drink the cure, you can't become a vampire again (even if you're attacked by vampire).
I admit, it's fun to bite people you hate in the neck, but it will be more fun if they become vampires, and talking to each other under the sun until death :D
There is nothing you can't do, at least if you have enough patience to keep trying.

Well for me I dont take sun damage if I feed every day. So the sun thing doesn't effect me. I have multiple houses marked out in every city. Those are the houses that I have the key to.

That is why you can't relax.
Feed-->fast travel-->must feed again in order to remain in lv 1.

I would suggest to become a vampire only if you get bored/for fun (read: don't save).

Btw, who(m) do you feed most often?

Since I spend a lot of time in Bravil (I think) I feed on City-Swimmer and her neighbor.
I have both of their keys.
Oh and I became a vampire to become an uberpwner for the Thieves guild quests aswell as the DarkBrotherhood quests.

Oh what a pitiful swimmer, tired after swimming and get bitten by a vampire when asleep :)

You don't have to be a vampire, say...improve your illusion to 100, and make a 100% chameleon spell (you have advanced in the mages guild of course?)

Sorry, it seems that I misunderstood your post (before the one above)
Are you in a killing spree?

@Uberpwner
Have you become a Master of Sneak? It's really easy

You should use mod that add NPCs plus open cities plus supreme/midas magic to score more :)
I'm surfing mod sites now as my PC Oblivion disc will soon come.

Anyway, the easiest method to improve Sneak is by holding the joystick/analog against a wall that cover you from undead/living things, just hold it in place with something big/heavy

youre wrong. fast traveling doesnt increase your level of vampirism, resting or sleeping does. i think being a vampire is cool cuz i never rest(unless i level) anyway. and its a great way to increase certain skills and attributes above 100. biting people is fun too and if youre in your first stage of vampirism you dont get sun damage. the aging effect doesnt bother me cuz i always wear the best helmets(which hide your face away) and the weakness to fire is very low, even in the last stage. on the upside, never getting diseased or paralised are great benefits. so being a vampire is one of the best things that can happen to you if you never sleep or rest(i heal myself all the time and trust me, its good for your retoration. sleeping has never helped me unless i had to level)

Downsides: 1.You look hideous. 2.You'll Still get sun damage eventually. 3. Every time you sleep you'll get the description of a nasty dream. {Although that never bothered me much} Now i know those those aren't very good reasons, But I'll tell you this. Those reasons made my oblivion game a living hell. And it will always be that way.

For vickstick:

Do you never wait/rest?

And I agree with Argonian Thief that your character will become hideous, that is an annoying thing for those who spent hours to create a beautiful face.
But that is indeed not much of an effect for the beast race (with some exception), especially those who don't care about faces (or can't make a decent one).
vickstick wrote:i heal myself all the time
But that will be annoying when you are in sneak mode (if you're using spells)
Or you'll end up using potion of healing, which means decreasing mid battle emergency supplies
vickstick wrote:on the upside, never getting diseased or paralised are great benefits
Get the Ring of Vitality via the usual dungeon crawling.
vickstick wrote:biting people is fun too
Indeed, but I don't like the side effects.
I have two primary save slots (with lots of secondary), one for serious play, one for fun. The latter is where I save my mischief, like 80000+ bounty, 100% Chameleon, et cetera.

Each people have a different opinion, no true or wrong, which makes this world more colourful

I heal myself all the time
and that could cost lots of money and magicka.

How hard (on difficulty meter) do you play vickstick?
If it's on normal/higher, you'll spend a lot of magicka -just like what Argonian Thief said- to keep your health full all the time, without the help of rest and/sleep

I hated being a vampire because I was in the middle of a large quest when it happened. But if I could have choosen when to be one, and not be immune it'd defenently be now. Being a Vampire is good for one thing, spelunking. Use it to cave hop and use it when its at its full effect!
I only post with personal exp. So I will not answer anything about the dark brotherhood, and easter eggs.

OK, new here, first post and all that, but I thought I'd chip into this discussion... Apologies that this is a bit of a long one.

I've played Oblivion for quite a while now- I've played through the game twice in order to get a character I was happy with. On both playthroughs I have been a vampire since pretty much the beginning. In fact, I became a vampire, unintentionally, at the beginning of my very first playthrough- I simply happened to explore a vampire cave by chance, and 3 days later I was a vampire.

In total, I'd say I have played around 200 hours as a vampire (so, already, you can probably tell I am going to be pro-vampire). I have gotten the nack of it, and can say that the negatives are totally outweiged by the positives (increased stats and nightvision/detect life combines spell which is my most used spell- vital in dungeons/tresspassing).

For one, the first 'day' (I use this term loosely) of vampirism has no sun damage at all, just increase fire damage- which I feel is negligible. Only on the second, third and fourth days do you actually get sun damage- with the third and the fourth being the only real pains once you are at a decent level.

I also want to clarify that when 24 hours pass, you don't advance to the next 'day' of vampirism, that only happens when you wait/rest or sleep- nothing else. So if you avoid this, you never get sun damage but still reap the rewards of the added stats bonus. OK, so there will be moments when you have to rest or sleep, and all of a sudden the sun is killing you, but its really not as big of a deal as people make out. Stop and think for a second of how many caves/houses you pass while out in the world- each one of those can provide you refuge so that you can wait till the sun goes down. Then its just a case of finding someone to feed on...

On the topic of people to feed on: I for one tend to use the same person to feed off (feeding doesn't kill people btw), Puny Ancus at the Imperial City Waterfront- the resason? I have my house next door to where he sleeps (he sleeps outside) so I can wait till night, come out, and hey presto, I am back to day one vampire (which also means you can rest and sleep for the next 24 hours without progressing to the next stage). Other worthwhile places are guilds you are a member of, because you have access to their sleeping quarters, and there is one in each city.

I think a lot of the people who dismiss vampirism as something that it too inconvenient are those who have not tried it for a reasonable length of time- like everything, it takes a while to get used to, but once you suss it, it becomes second nature and easy to manage. It becomes especially handy to those who have trouble in Thieves Guild quests when you are at day four too.

And, coincidentally, I have bitten 54 necks in 80 hours of my second playthrough- personally, I don't think thats much bother at all.

Hope that helps.
