What firearms do you like to use?

Post by fireblade80 »

Hello!

Unlike with melee weapons (where you simply use the best one available), ranged weapons provide a variety of options for solving a variety of situations. Which ones do you use in which situations? Which are your favorites? ;)

I, for one, enjoy firing the Colt Anaconda, because of its great damage, range, fast reload and wild-west feeling. :)

Situational preferences

Personally, I find the use situational in most places. Dealing with zombies or headrunners, the .38 is fine - they pop quick. Bigger things need bigger cannons, of course, but using the Anaconda on a zombie is like squishing a bug with a baseball bat.

Of course, if there are a whole lot of zombies, then the Brokk is kind of nice - more exploded bodies between reloads. By the time I get to the nosferatu warrens, I've usually scrapped the .38, but not until after using it to clear the computer cafe's back room. In the lower levels of the warrens, the Anaconda is handy (with a shotgun, natch).

I don't typically play favorites. Certain ones are better choices in certain places. The only thing that keeps me from having all of them on-hand is a limit on how many hotkeys I have, so I'm usually only packing 4 ranged + 1 flamethrower by the end, at that point typically the Brokk, the .50 cal, the Spazz, and the rifle. I find that the Anaconda actually seems to hit harder than the .50 cal, but the extra rounds are handy.

The flamethrower I only find useful in the Gauntlet (and yes, maybe a little bit in the Hollowbrook, too). I know many like it for the Sheriff in bat-form, but he can be had with the 9mm if you're clever (and patient). The shot-gun, of course, is a smidge quicker. I long ago figured out how to take Ming without firing a shot (as a Tremere, anyway).

Of course, I get a buy because I can mouse-wheel my disciplines by detent stops, so I don't actually have to hotkey any of them :)

Ultimately, it comes down to economics. The lesser weapons have cheaper ammo, so why kill it with a $5 round when you can do it with two $1 rounds?

Of course, you don't actually get any bonuses for finishing richer, but it's the little challenges that keep things interesting.

Let's see... Uzi for humans, spaz on full auto for vampires and bosses, and the military sniper rifle for whenever people are too far away to waste too many bullets on.

I do have to keep going back to Mercurio for ammo, but compared to playing the game using Melee the bosses are far easier, though there's a few less thousand dollars to be had at the end of the game. Worth it.

Oh... and reading the post above me I just learned about Hotkeys. I've completed the game a good 4 times and I never even knew about them. Oops.

While I enjoy making short work of foes with the flamethrower, my top two firearms are the Anaconda and Jaegerspas.

Aside from the power, I like being able to shift gears from single fire to fan action or from pump action to auto fire. The revolver was also more appealing to me aesthetically than the Eagle.

I rarely use the .38 much...why bother when I can kill them quicker with a tire iron or knife.

9mm I use, but pretty much stop using it once the .44 becomes available.

I use both shotguns for big critters or in situations where I want to prevent a melee confrontation...just depends on what rate of fire I need.

Rate of fire needed also determines my choice of .50 or .44. I like both, but do prefer the big BOOM of the Anaconda.

I love the sniper rifle(s), and have cleared entire levels using just those. Slow reload, but it's a guaranteed kill for any man-sized or smaller critter (except soldiers), with or without the scope.

I never use the Uzi or Mac-10. Too inaccurate for my tastes and wasteful of ammo (although a lot of baddies use them, so easy to pick up more ammo). I will use the assault rifle though...especially against the soldiers in the late game. One good burst will usually take one down pretty quick.

To take down the Sheriff, I have found the assault rifle works best. Just let it rip when he is diving toward you. Then finish him off with the shotgun or a heavy pistol when he gets really low.

I tend to use guns against other guys that use guns, otherwise I go melee most of the time. My favorite is sneak/obfuscate with a bushhook. :mischief:

I use the shotguns vs. zombies, it knocks them back and I don't have to aim so much.
The killmatic and braddock I rarely use because I find it hard to control (if you don't find it hard to control, great- I'm bad a t videogames).
I usually use the .38 for fun when I have fortitude active (definitely my favorite discipline- just walk through your opponents, kill them at your leisure).

The brokk I like because it's fast and cheap, with good reload.

The flamethrower I use on bosses.

The Mcclusky or anaconda might be my favorite. Makes me feel powerful...

But mostly, since I'm so bad at aiming I like taking enemies out in melee.
