Solo Thief Possible?
Solo Thief Possible?
Anyone here tried to finish Icewind Dale with an expansion with a solo thief? Any advices?
I soloed IWD+HoW+TotL with a halfling fighter/thief on HoF mode, so a solo thief shouldn't be too hard on normal mode, no matter what race you take.
Str and dex should be maxed out and con should be 16, since there's a slight chance to find a random potion which trades 1 con for another stat 17 con doesn't hurt.
Int and wis are quite useless, but since it's annoying to have to drink potions or to pay merchants to get items identified, I'd put both stats to 10 to avoid a lore penalty.
15 cha is enough for the dialogue options, but having 18 for cheaper shop prices is better.
I'd start with bow and longsword proficiency.
The best head protection should be the "rogue's cowl" you can buy from Orrick in chapter 2-5. The "lucky scimitar" is a cheap and very useful weapon early on.
After the first Dragon's Eye level or so you can start HoW, where you can get a lot of XP and great equipment, like the girdle of ogre blood which allows your character to regenerate HP without having to rest for an eternity. A stealthy thief needs only one potion of invisibilty (can be bought from Oswald) to finish the Burial Isle quest (You don't have to kill every monster the first time you meet it), afterwards you can travel back, but Gloomfrost (have the dagger made for "antimagic shell") is also very easy with stealth or hit and run tactics and you can get great equipment when you return, like the studded leather+4 or the longsword of action +4.
In my HoF game I even finished HoW and TotL before facing Yxonomej, the throwing dagger +4 you can find before the HoW final is a great weapon for enemies immune to normal weapons like Yxonomej, Iron Golems or Behilfet.
