question about bard class in motb!

Post by conan7000 »

i'v decided to play as a bard in motb after having finished it as a fighter/beserker the previous time;i've done(in the 18 levels of the creation of the character):took an elf drow(for the bonus + 2 charisma owing that is the main attribute for a bard and for +2 dexterity ) then chosen a 10 bard/1 fighter(for the all medium armour proficiency and some weapons alike) /3 eldritch knight(maybe black guard would have been better) for
Chaotic evil alignment !
strenght 12
dexterity 16
costitution 14
intelligence 13
wisdom 10
charisma 18

maybe i should have lifted up the strenght more, but considered that i'v chosen a more dexterity-oriented bard(drow race has a long bow bonus feat for the ranged attacks) i think it won' t be a big problem!

what do you think that i should have done otherwise as a bard or is good as i'v done myself all the same?

what other multiclassbard would have been good to choose?

i think your stats are fine but know that 16 char is enough (bards get to lev 6 spells and i dont think char really affects you songs that much) so i d raise dexterity and keep the strength at 12 which is enough. since you ll have alot of dexterity you should take dual wield feats. Your build is good but i wouldn t take eldritch knight, instead id raise bard levels (bards are great at high levels :) )

if you want to be a blackgaurd you ll need to get power attack and cleave which means you ll need a strength of 13. im not sure if monk gives free cleave anymore, cuz if it did blackgaurd would not be a problem...

do you think that, considered that drow's favourite class is wizard, if i had taken human class or half elf class would hav been better for not having any kind of XP penalty restrictions with whichever other class i wanted to choose apart form bard or not?

as far as dual wielding is concerned (i'v already taken long bow weapon focus) which are the best two weapons to dualwield(a short sword (or dagger)and a longsword right?)?

I recommend Either going only 15/16 bard and probably taking at least 4 RDD levels if not 10 and becoming a warrior bard..

Bard 15/fighter 2/EK3/RDD 10 for example

This bard should use curse song because you will have the bard levels for it.. (actually you only need 12 bard levels to get a decent curse song! But you can take chorus of heroism with lingering song with 15 (or is it 16) bard. Lingering song if you take chorus of heroism.

Another Build would take 23 levels of Bard. At level 21 Song of Reqiem should be taken and then you use the other Bard levels to top off perform to make your Song of Requiem better. 23 also gives a bonus feat. The next feat after Song of Req should be Hymm of Requiem which will allow you to do tons of sonic damage and also heal your party at the same time. With that build you should grab lingering song. And probably Curse Song for use until the point you get Hymn of Requiem.

Example: Bard 23 EK 4 F2 C 1 (2 feats and divine shield from Cleric)
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

now i'm a bard 14 BG4 F1 (i'v changed it the previuos EK to BG 'couse it seemed to me just more appropriate for a bard);so you say form now on i should take other 9 bard levels for taking hymn of requiem and all other levels RDD(i think it means red of the dragon disciple isn't it?)why another F level?
one just for some more armour proficiency..........

I'd take at least 22 bard so you can GET hymn of requiem (21) early and top off perform (22) later. Taking one more level of bard gives you an epic feat (23).

BG4 is as far as you should go because more really doesn't give much beyond high BAB.

F1 is good since it gives a feat. F2 will give another feat.

RDD 4 is very good. Gives 3 BAB and 4 STR + Natural armor bonus.
RDD 2 is not as good because you take a BAB hit and only gain 2 STR.

So 23 (bard) + 4 BG + 1 F = 28 giving you two levels to play with.
And you have 23 BAB so it really doesn't matter if you get 23, 24, or 25 BAB too much although higher is better.

Edit: Another option is 1 level of Pale Master in place of a fighter or cleric level if you are the right alignment. That would keep caster level higher and also grant 2 AC

Personally I would either take RDD 2 or another option would be to take 1 more level of fighter and grab an epic fight such as armor skin or epic prowess. Then the final level take more bard and maybe help an inspiration? Or if you haven't taken divine shield yet take a level of cleric and gain 2 domain feats: darkness (blindfighting) if you lack that and water (evasion) if you wear light armor or earth (toughness) if you wear heavy armor with battlecaster. Another good one is luck (Luck of Heroes) and another is chaos (slippery mind). Take the cleric level on a feat level and take divine shield..if you have enough charisma to cast Bard 23 spells and you wear a cloak of charisma you would get a nice AC bonus!

You could take only 21 Bard at level 27 (song of req) then take hymmn of req 29, but then you'll have lower perform. But it would open you up to RDD 4 which is a much more efficient package than RDD 2.

I am liking the Fighter Cleric option a little better especially if you lack divine shield (which you will need power attack for).

15 Bard(5 pre epic)/10 RDD/3 BlackGuard/2 FB
need: Divine Might@char lvl 18/3rd lvl BG
(can get epic divine might@21 doesent have to be a class that has access to divine might via turn undead)

or

4 Bard/6Cleric(6th lvl@lvl30)/10 RDD/10 Stormlord

would be my choice

Race:
Drow

both builds will do ok when leveling
1st one will be a good Party Leader and advance linear in Power @ MotB
2nd one gets his (ultimate) power rather late...
