Beating the game with three people?

Post by Hurk Fun »

This includes TOB and I'm playing on max hard.

Is this possible? I've heard of people soloing, but I don't remember if they said anything about the difficulty or TOB.

I like playing with fewer people because they level up sooooo much faster and they aren't as hard to manage. I might have to make some funky class combos but I feel sure it's possible.

Has anyone done this before?

EDIT: This also includes the last boss of Watcher's Keep.

Yes, it can be done, easily.

Many people have soloed the game here on Insane, with difficulty enhancing mods. It's possible to beat the vanilla game on insane difficulty with any class and NPC combination.

Thanks.

My brother asks if it's possible to beat the game without an arcane spellcaster, with the Tactics Mod installed.

This last thing will be a lot more tougher, but I think it's doable. Tactics is surely the mod which puts arcane casters way up in front: even Improved Illyich can be(relatively easily) defeated with a solo arcane caster, while all other classes will have serious difficulties. Depends on which components of the Tactics mod have you installed.

A 3 person party (well built) actually makes the game a whole lot easier IMHO.

I've tried it a few times and was able to get through a lot with ease. I could have finished the game easily, too...

...I just got bored. I miss character interaction. I actually prefer to solo rather than running with more player-mades. I'd rather be alone than be with company that won't say a word to me. =/

Playing with three characters is in many ways superior to a full party. They are easier to control, they get more experience and better equipment, and you can still cover all necessary fields. I would say that 2-3 characters would be easiest to beat the game with if you know how to use them to their full potential.

Soloing Tactics or Ascension is a bit trickier. ^^

I'd think that this kind of party would do well 3-manning BG2:

Inquisitor OR Ranger/Cleric Multi-class
Swashbuckler
Sorceror/Mage Kit/Wild Mage

Good damage potential, good thieving skills(since Swash's take no penalties), and good spell-casting potential with certain Mage Kits or the Sorceror. It covers almost all of the areas of gameplay with the Inquisitor (except Priest spells) and all of them with the Ranger/Cleric (though with less Damage/tanking ability, and no uber powerful Dispel Magic).

I may try it again sometime in the near future.

The Ranger/Cleric is overpowered on its' own, having probably the best tanking capability next to mages and sorcerers.

That party will wipe clean through the game without encountering any difficulties.

Instead of running through with these fancy multi/dual class combinations, why not have a party like this:

Vanilla Thief
Mage/Wild Mage
and a Fighter/Cleric (or just have a Mage/Cleric and leave the fighter as a single)

That way you have a class for each of the problems in the game (traps, locks, defencive spells, group buffs, tanking and all the rest) and it'd make the game harder. (no special class abilities, no bonus/penalties excluding the Wild Mage's surges)

Just a thought.

Vanilla Thief would definately be a viable option, but since you only have one Mage to do damaging, dispelling, buffing etc., you will need another form of straight up DPS.

Fighter/Thief or Swashbuckler(ideal) would probably fit the role in this party better.

Of course, you can still play a Vanilla Thief if you consistently chain-chug invisibility pots and backstab all of the time.

On another topic, I forgot that Ranger/Cleric's get Ironskins and other such spells. THAT would definately make the party coast through the game. The Inquisitor is still a good fit for the spot too.
