Hm. Putting heavy armour on a thief type seems a bit... perverse!

You have both armour types in major skills? Not something I would do, personally. But then, I never use armour for any longer than I have to! If it works for you, fair enough, but even so, why both armour skills? You are bound to neglect one for the other, or, if you are balancing them, neither will progress as rapidly as just one. It may be of more benefit to your character to have another skill in place of the second armour skill. Armourer, for example, to repair magical items as soon as possible... Just my opinion, of course. We each have our own character concepts.

Yeah, I have worn both types at once myself - notably in the starter dungeon, but have never, ever, had an armour skill as a major skill; but I have used heavy shield with light armour or with enchanted clothing. But I have to say I prefer to use light armour, since it is less weight to cart around with you! My first prefernce, though, is enchanted clothing, with enchanted light shield and light gauntlets.
But it's nice to play around with stuff.

Yeah; but you can enchant clothing with Shield spells, you know? I join the Mage Guild on purpose to purchase Fire, Frost, and Shock Shield spells (not resistance spells), which I then use with Soul Gems on the Altar of Enchanting in the Mage Tower. Do you have the Expansion? It's worth it!
The beauty of the elemental SHIELD spells on clothing is that they not only give you some shielding from the elements, but also THE SAME AMOUNT of normal Shield effect. Which can be better than any regular armour shielding, and without the weight.
