The Not-so-noob is back! and wanting advice. (spoilers)

Post by Wyl »

Hey all,

I've started a new game, and am wanting a little advice.
1st of all, I'll give you the lodown on my party with their main equipment.

Myself: Half-orc Fighter/Cleric 10/10, Flail of Ages, Shield Of Baldurn. (Bad spelling), Boots of Jansenkind.
Jaheria: Sling of Everad +5, Girdle of Ogre Strength, Shadow Dragon armor, Fortress Shield
Minsc: Mr. Talky-sword +3, Red Dragon Plate.
Valygar: Helm of Defence
Yoshie
Jan: Robe of Venca

I'm going with a semi-rp/gamer style.
I took Jan a) as my main thief and mage after Spellhold and b) for the items and funny dialogs that he has with Minsc and Val.

I've completed some of the Cleric stronghold quests (took the Ring of Holiness) and done the Umar Hills, Trademeet, The red dragon place, The Keep, the Unseeing Eye, the planar Sphere, Renel's Shadowthief quests and the Circus.
I've also started the Demi-lich quest, and need to know where to find the skull and the other set of arms and legs (already have one from the Unseeing Eye quest)

I want to do the Astral Prison, but that involves getting the tiefling, and i like my party the way it is.
I've also lost Naila. I turned down her offer for the keep, and she walked away with some of my items :(

So, I guess I'm asking for advice on party construction and how to procced with my quests.
I'll supply more details as they're asked for.

Thanks in advance,
Wyl.

The other body parts for the Demi-lich quest are in a house in the bridge District, Number 11 on this map.

You don't have to take Haer'Dalis (the Tiefling) into the party to do the Planar Prison quest, just free him then take the gem to Raelis Shai in the playhouse below the Five Flagons Inn.

Ahh, thank you galraen. I also got the Staff of the Magi while I was there.

Anything about Nalia would be helpful.

As far as I know if she leaves at the point you mentioned she's gone for good, along with your items. The only places she might show up is in the Copper Coronet or inside the keep itself. I can't remember if you can still get into the keep once you've turned her down though.

Apart from the Teddy Bear quest in the graveyard you seem to have covered most of them. Have you done all of the Jaheira romance related quests yet?

You could dump Yoshimo temporarily (Jan should be capable of handling the thieving chores by now) and pick up Korgan and do his quest. Other than that you look set to go.

It's not special quest, just enter the Guarded compund and kill everyone within.

Anomen also has a quest, linked to him.

Almost all NPCs have personal quests, linked to them, with the exception of Yoshimo, Minsc and Aerie.

Apart from that, the Limited Wish quest comes to mind. And have you completed the Mind Flayer Area in the sewers? And also, there is a Lich in the City Gates' district.

You didn't mention it in the list above.

There's a guy in the Temple of Helm in the Temple District with a quest. He's directly to the right after you walk in.

Should only be true if you're neutral, if your good those quests should originate in the Temple of Lathander, Evil the Temple of Talos. The game does screw up sometimes though, and it ends up in the wrong temple. When that happens it is usually the Temple of the Fence Sitter (Helm) that gets misused.

I've read in a few places that Viconia romances Half-Orcs. I can't confirm it as I haven't tried it, but it might be worth exploring.

As for Nalia, try the little Garrison area south of her keep; she may have wandered off there. If not, try the Copper Coronet. If not...sorry. =(

I just recently started a Half-Elf Swashbuckler. I completed every side quest in the game, pre-Spellhold, that doesn't require having an NPC in the party for a prolonged period of time(took Valygar to complete the Planar Sphere then gave him the boot). I did complete Jan/Keldorn's quests when they popped up, and Jaheira's too. I ended up using the CLUA console to zoom through Jaheira's romance right before I went to Brynnlaw, just because I felt that I hadn't progressed enough for the amount of time I had commited(hadn't even seen Dermin appear yet, 20+ hours later). I'm just now starting SH, and I am level 18 now, with most of my marty members being 12-15.

Just a little glimpse of the EXP taking the time and being thourough gives you.

EDIT: Forgot to mention my party composition.

Bugger! I forgot to ask;
Are there any quests on Brynnlaw? Apart from the one involving the gentleman's club and getting into Spellhold?

There are only a few quests in Brynnlaw, and as far as I know, they all link back to the main goal of getting into Spellhold in some way or another.

There is the gentlemen's club, as you said; There is one where you can get the pirate lord Desharik to take you to Spellhold(don't do this, you miss out on a lot of story); There is one where you can kill a Cowled Wizard for a wardstone; and there is one where you can kill Chremy(works with Galvena) to free a woman and her child.

All of them link back to Spellhold in one way or another. Brynnlaw is a pretty empty place compared to Athkatla, eh?

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you've got. =P

Thank goodness for that.
I'm in the Drow city now, collecting a Koa-tow prince. Debating weather or not to go after the Elder Orb and the Elder Brain as well... for the experience.

I usually do the brain and the orb, both for experience, and make sure catch the prince on the way out. Some players find the mind flayer area a bit tough though, so keep that in mind.

If you're after the Equalizer, you'll need to go through both of those areas anyway. The experience is good and the first does have some nice loot, so it may be worth the trouble.
