I just finished the Game for the first time, more are sure to follow.
And may be some of you also thought about this question.
The Idea is, that Triss gives you the amulet for Alvin, but Alvin ports away nonetheless. Triss says, that only a powerful sorcerer can bypass the amulet and that Alvin might have teleported anywhere.... even through time.
When Alvin says, he wants to be a Witcher, i choose the option, "don´t you want to be an knight" ... that´s when he says, he wants to be an knight witcher.
So when he ports away from Murky Waters, could it be, that he ports into the past and becomes Grandmaster of the Order?
One Point that contradicts this Theory, is that he does not recognize you, that is if Jaque de Aldersberg is really Alvin.
What do you think?

Alvin (Spoilers)
I remember that he can teleport to different places, but I don't remember him being able to travel through time, so I doubt that de Aldersberg is Alvin.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price
He is. If you play through the campaign a couple times you'll see several clues for this, including that Alvin is the "Grandmaster" when he plays "Kill the Elf" in Murky Waters. But it's the amulet that's the big giveaway, since you find Alvin's amulet on the Grandmaster. I'm not sure why you think that the Grandmaster doesn't recognize Geralt.
This is a huge spoiler btw, and you should tag your threads as such when you give away significant plot information.

He doesn´t do this during the Game, but Triss says he might be able to do so.but I don't remember him being able to travel through time

Well if the Grandmaster really is Alvin, than he knows Geralt from his childhoodI'm not sure why you think that the Grandmaster doesn't recognize Geralt
and could have gone more subtle ways to gain knowledge of the witchers´ secrets.
eg.:
If he really ported back through time, than why didn´t he join the witchers, when they were still aplenty?
Back than he could have assumed the role of Vesemir and convince the novice witchers that his plans for the world are the right ones and make them play along and not chase him. (This of cource would make the whole story as it is impossible, but would be the smarter choice for Alivn than creating the Order of the Flaming Rose or becoming its leader.)

He didn't need to gain knowledge. He already knew the secrets. He just needed to steal the mutagens.Well if the Grandmaster really is Alvin, than he knows Geralt from his childhood and could have gone more subtle ways to gain knowledge of the witchers´ secrets.
That's assuming he already knew what his plan was going to be when he went back in time, which he probably didn't. Plus, 1) it's a process to become a witcher, which most people don't survive, and 2) Geralt discourages him from becoming a witcher. So he became something else.If he really ported back through time, than why didn´t he join the witchers, when they were still aplenty?

He does recognize Geralt, and even talks about, and I paraphrase, "Oh, I remember how you used to {own words here, I said paraphrase for a reason} wax all philosophical and crap and talk about how powers are only to be used for good. What better cause than the preservation of humanity?"
People of the Elder Blood have been known to time-travel (read the books in-game, or even just check out The Witcher wiki), and if Alvin was powerful enough to get around the amulet, even Triss says he could be anywhere in space or time.
The hints you get all depend on what you told him, but he definitely references many of the "life lessons" I gave him. As for the hair-color change, come on, people... Pretty much everybody in my family started off with blonde hair, now we're all dark brown, and it's not like I've been alive as long as the Grandmaster.
Another hint: The Wild Hunt guy talks about how you knew him by another name, and even Geralt and Dandelion wonder if the amulet could have been Alvin's.
It's not said straight out, but it's hinted at so vigorously at times, that it's pretty obvious at least 1 developer, at some point, had AT LEAST the intention for the Grandmaster to be Alvin. More likely, he WAS Alvin, the way he talked to my Geralt about the "good old times" (and I mean stuff that I actually saw happen in-game, not another obscure reference to the Witcher books that I most likely will never be able to read, reading only English) and a debt that was now payed after saving Geralt from the crazy plant monsters.
