Crash between Ch III/IV - Win XP x64

Post by b0x »

I have tried 3 times now, and the game continually crashes on me in the same place. It happens right after you get teleported when talking to triss/declan in the new narakort in. You end up in a cave, and you have to move some tree roots, and kill 3 salamanders.

Every time, as soon as I kill the third one, the game crashes.

EDIT: Its not just the third one, it appears to be maybe a specific guy. EAX fix didnt help.

EDIT2: I was able to run past them and start up the talk with Yaevinn (or however you spell it). But, it crashes again once the big battle starts up after the portal opens.

I am running on xp x64. There have been a couple crashes before this, but they were always random and I just let it go. But this one keeps happening in the same spot.

Also, I just played started playing this again, and played into the middle of chapter II on version 1.1 I think, then upgraded to EE, and continued from there. Hopefully that wont screw up anything.

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT3: I made it through to lakeside. I just didnt kill any of the salamanders. Its a non-issue now I guess, but still, anyone have any ideas?

Are your drivers updated? Because I played the Witcher both on Windows XP and Windows Vista 64-bit and I have yet to encounter a single crash on either of them. I also upgraded to EE and have yet to encounter any issues, aside from a minor bug where Geralt sometimes run fast/slow after loading a save (also happened in the original game).

Hello,

I know this won´t be much help, but I say it nonetheless:

Drivers of any sort for WinXP 64 are mediocrely at best. Try XP 32 or update to Vista 64 of you want to use a 64bit OS. XP64 never have had the support of hardware manufacturers that XP32 and vista have. To few people are using it, thus it is not really supported and games are never tested to run on XP64.

Sad but true

I have this exact same problem (XP 32). Only two (random) crashes prior to this part, but it's always the same when I start killing the Salamanders. I'll try just running through, if they aren't necessary kills for the quest.

Edit: Well I managed it, although the crash happened again during the big battle. I just saved after every Salamander slain, and made it to the battle with the Professor, finally (after only 3 crashes).
