Problem with companions AI

Post by Requiem80 »

Hi i have a question about my companions Artificial Intelligence.

Until now I had i have always set puppet mode off for all my companions, defend master setting on, and follow distance on. This worked fine until now.

But now, underway in act 3 of the game, all the sudden all my companions don't autofollow my PC. They only come when i leave a map, and then if i go to another area they stay at the map exit, while the main pc walks.

And what's worse, they don't cast spells either until I micromanage all of them and give all the orders by hand.

But the weird thing is: the AI button next to the rest button is shining blue, which means I have companion AI set on, but to no avail. Turning the button of and on again didnt help either.

Anyone able to help me out?

I'd be interested in hearing about companion issues too. I have the problem in Act 1 that even though my companions are set to "defend," melee companions will run to the absolute furthest mob and ignore the mobs pounding on me. If their target mob is TOO far, they will turn around and run back without attacking, often rubber-banding like this several times before they even land a single blow unless I actually take control of them and force them to attack a mob.

Sometimes I also have issues with following, where at least one will refuse to enter a room where there is combat if they have no line-of-sight to a mob. They have to be manually walked into a room.

The first two acts, the AI appeared to work good. But since act 3 i have this problem.

If i load a game from act 2, my companions follow as they should and they target enemys out of themselves as they should. As soon as act 3 came, the trouble with the AI started.

I had and have the *party AI* button on all the time, and puppet mode off. Switching it off and on makes no difference

If you right click on the ground and hold the right mouse button down for a couple of seconds, a menu will pop up. From this menu select "follow me" from the broadcast commands list. That should fix your problem.

(NWN2 has lots of problems with cut scenes, including telling your companions to "hold your ground" sometimes and then leaving them that way.)

Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Theirs also a user interface toggle (on the gamescreen) that sometimes get hit accidentally. I forget where it is located or if it is only with MoTB installed? But if you put your tooltip over it it either says "AI on" or "AI off".

Edit: on second thought I am not sure if I am thinking of the right game.....
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

You are probably right, I have noticed that my problem seems to be due to the fact that my characters "puppet mode" keeps changing, and I don't know why.
