New to the game and needing some answers!

Post by Khaoz »

Hello everyone.

I've been considering about to get this game.
But I'd like to know few things about it;

1) Can I play this game with one character or is it necessary to form a group? Since I like to focus on one character for more pleasuring roleplaying.
Or if I have a group, do I need to control / play the other characters as well. Or are they controlled by AI?

2) game age.
is this game well re-playable? so after i've finished the "main questline" -if there is one. can I still continue doing quests, explore the world and so on. Or do I need to start a new game. ( I dont want the fiasco like fable after finigshin main q!!!)

3) Is there a online game in this? and is it good and entertaining? or do you prefer the single player game more.

-Thanks for all answers forehand.

I just started playing it myself and you basically "create" and manage your one character, and others join you but are basically set up to automatically do stuff so you don't have to micromanage them. That being said, they do perform better if you micromanage but it isn't at all necessary.

There are tons of different character classes to choose from with different spells and abilities so I would say replay value would be pretty high.

I haven't played online at all so I couldn't answer your question there.

So the issue with my role playing preferences is answered :)

but what about the "main quest"? If I finish it. can I continue my save`?
-Its a small thing but fairly important to me.

The main quest and the "side" quests are bundled together in chapters. In this respect the story line is *ultimately* linear, but it doesn't feel linear because in each chapter its only "semi-linear" (basically a beginning and an end to a chapter with some side quests in-between, some required, but others ultimately optional). Note though that almost no one ever does NOT do all the side quests.

Despite the fact that the story is linear,

1. It does extend for a many, many playable hours, and

2. There are a near infinite number of possibilities with character creation, several varieties being significantly different in operation throughout the game, finally

3. The story can change depending on "alignment" based decisions, and which companions you select for different quests.

All told, it DOES have more than a little replay value.. additionally you can purchase the expansions and there is a user base of *different* modules to download from creative player/designers (for free).

If you purchase it try to get it for a good price with the expansion pack Mask of the Betrayer (MOTB). I think its called something like the "diamond" edition (if its available). There will be another expansion due out sometime this Christmas (2008), with other classes and a lower character level module.

You have compagnians. You can control them in combat to prevent them from doing stupid things, but they do have AI. With friendly fire disabled you can beat the game without controlling your companions aside from casting some buffs with your spellcaster friends.

Their social reactions are not controlled by you. Just combat.

2) game age.

I don't think so aside from user created mods. I haven't played those yet as I just finished the campaign. You could run through the campaign again but it is not a sandbox and pretty much I did everything that was optional my first run through.

But like Scott says you can try a new class and experience the new abilities.

Their are persistent worlds online. Some people enjoy that. I enjoy the single campaign the most. Actually I've had the most hours of fun tweaking characters I've designed which I only tested out a little bit in gameplay. Plus a run through the campaign with the favorite character I designed. I found it very rewarding to put a lot of thought into my character design.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

What's wrong with a linear storyline? I don't get why people fuss so much about NOT getting a sandbox to play in. LIFE is linear... you're born, you die, and do a bunch of random crap in between. That's how NWN games play (only focused on a much shorter span of time). Not every game can be Morrowind or Oblivion (both of which I found got incredibly boring after beating every quest line, even going so far as to go back to turn my fav mage character into an evil soul-stealing Necromancer w/ the help of a few mods), and I would be really depressed if every game tried. I like having the chance to go around at the end of the main story and see how my actions affected the world, and even pick up on other quest lines, just for the heck of it, but at the same time, I much prefer having a REALLY good game that has a defined beginning and end (I also like to not have to hit the reset button at the "The End" message... curse you Zelda!!!), than a good game, but one that just keeps on going and going and going w/out any new real roleplaying content added.
