Did you enjoy Morrowind or Oblivion more?
In all honesty I have to say that IMO Morrowind was the better game, the story was so epic and just so intense at times I'd be up until all hours of the morning playing it. I just couldn't get into Oblivion the same way, I didn't feel the same passion that I felt for Morrowind and its expansions.
Note: Don't blast me I've also posted this on the Morrowind board as well I'm just curious and want to get the biggest collection of oppinions on this as I can.

Morrowind in my opinion!
-Even I play Oblivion more atm. (maybe because I've spent most of my life with morrowind xD)
..Please carry through this
------
Because!...
The land of Vardenfell! -Cyrodil is a standard green forests / snowy mountains fantasy world.
Quests arent made for childs in morrowind.
Storyline is more interesting. Theres more depth in the characters around Vardenfell... -Wizards in their towers (Divayth fyr for example and other telvanni wizards). GODS ?vivec?, ?almalexia?, Sotha sil(dead), Hircine(YOU're My prey!). Vampirism is more deeper imo.
MUSHROOMS
Disease ( well im not sure do I like it. But it makes good athmosphere in the land of Vardenfell).
large, let me repeate... LARGE mod scene.
Many placed artifacts and unique items to find around the land.
Many functioning factions and types, guilds, great houses, legion, morag tong guild, temple etc...
SOLSTHEIM & TRIBUNAL
Thats just a small ammount of the things I prefer in Morrowind than Oblivion.
----------------------
But thats not it!
There is also things in oblivion I prefer.
Awesome graphics!
Better gameplay++++
Some good mods!
Dungeons and forts are pleasuring.
Many interesting Npc's
The end of the Mainquest was well made.
And theres more ofcourse.
------------
for the end If I'd need to rate these games in the scale of 0-5.
Morrowind 4.6-(definitelly the favourite game I've played so far. And it was also the first true RPG I played)
-some minus because of the old graphics and pretty sticky fighting system.
Oblivion 3.9
-This was a great game at the beginning but later it started getting boring. And I had the feeling "I've seen all this in another rpg". And the expansions of Oblivion ain't nearly as good as Morrowind's IMO. Shivering isles is a decent one and actually really entertaining.
---
I believe there might be an Issue about this post because the active morrowind and oblivioin players are naturally going to vote for their own specified game. Even without trying the other.
-Im going to reply this to the same kind of post in the other forum section as well, For those who dont visit both Morro and Obli.
Both games are awesome creations and definitelly deserve the place to the best games I've ever going to be playing.
I hope at least few of you managed to crawl through this. Theres many Typos / inaccurate terms included just because of my nature to be lazy.
Thanks and please share you're preferences!

I loved Morrowind. Apart from those damnation 'birds' that attack you everywhere... (gritted teeth). I tried to love 'em because of the useful potion-making plumes, but I hated the damn things really. I loved being able to levitate and shoot things from high up where they couldn't get at my char... cool.
I love Oblivion. Nice scenery, you can see a long way, nice and clear. Smooth gameplay, nice magic - but NO levitation. I was really peeved about that. Nice character creation and stuff like that, and I like the guild quests and the expansions - especially Shivering Isles, which is nice and odd.
Both games suffer from the usual Bethesda efect of crashing a lot.

I feel each game has good and bad points:
Morrowind has a better and more in-depth main quest. It is also, in general, more fun to explore in Morrowind because the landscape and architecture are quite dramatically varied. Everything in Oblivion looks the same pretty much... grass and more grass.
In addition, I *much* prefer the transportation system in Morrowind, I loathe Oblivion's fast travel and avoid using it.
Oblivion, on the other hand, has better and more diverse side quests and the NPCs are slightly more interesting. Sure, people are critical about Oblivion's so-called "dialogue-tree," and so they should be. However, Morrowind's NPCs had a long list of conversation topics that were nearly all identical... Truth be told, neither game scores well in this area.
As I said, I feel that the sidequests in Oblivion are better. Indeed, I feel they have quite a lot more depth than those of Morrowind. But, at the same time, there are far fewer joinable factions in Oblivion. I mean, come on... This is Cyrodiil... where are the Imperial cult and legion?
I can obviously understand why Oblivion couldn't have a Temple faction or Great Houses.. but even there something should have been done to compensate.
And then there's the fact that Oblivion is stupidly over-simplified and dumbed down... All the hand-holding is ridiculous.. thank God for the mods that turn all of that junk off.
I also hate that choosing your skills is now severely diluted. Sorry, but has anybody here actually seen the difference in size between long swords, two-handed swords and short swords or daggers?!? There is no way they should be lumped into the same category. And axes as blunt weapons? Oh please...
Not to mention that Oblivion has major skills and then everything else... I prefer Morrowind's major, minor and miscellaneous..
Graphics?
Yes, there is no denying that Oblivion has nice graphics, but graphics should never, ever define the quality of a game. Besides, if you use texture replacers you can make Morrowind look almost as nice as Oblivion.
Another thing.. given the huge focus Bethsoft put on Oblivion graphics, why on earth do the NPCs look so awful? Seriously, all the races have nearly identical round facial structures and overly large goofy eyes; they all look like a bunch of in-bred chipmunks..
Again... thank God for mods, in this case TNR
In terms of expansions, in the case of both games I prefer them to the original. In my view Tribunal and Bloodmoon are a lot more interesting than vanilla Morrowind, and equally I find the Shivering Isles considerably improved over Oblivion.
I guess I can probably say that in general I view Morrowind as the superior game, but Oblivion can certainly be fun once you tailor it to your preferences.

Dragon Wench pointed out a good issue wich I didnt remember to mention!
-The skill & lvling system-
Morrowind
-I like the huge ammount of different skills you can get better. Far more weapon specialities etc.
and you actually get major and minor skills ( both increase lvling).
This might sound lame to Oblivion players ("you lvl up super fast with that many skills," etc.) But its not true. I find it more difficult to level up your character in Morrowind than Oblivion.
The skills need much more usage to increase than the oblivion skills. ( for example; Magic skills in oblivion = you get to master by running around and casting constantly)
Ofcourse magic skills in morrowind increase too by casting, but not nearly that fast.
-medium armor
-Downsides would be that some skills are really useless (I.M.O). For example; Illusion spells need huge ammount of magicka to do, Hand to hand is just crappy, Blocking is altered by change ( you dont block manually).
Oblivion
-The new "power attacks" are a great feature in fighting.
-Blocing has been made an usefull feature.
-you gain new features in each different skill by the limits of (novice)25-50-75-100(master).
- You actually get much more reality feeling in melee and magic combat with the improved gameplay.
-Hand to hand is actually enjoyable skill now.
-Downsides...
Ammount of all skills reduced
Not the same Major / minor / misc skill system.
Super easy leveling
And the reduced weapon speciliations are really pain in the ass... no short / longblade. Axe / blunt.
Ps: I completely agree that the graphics wont make the game! My all time favourite games are from few years back. And I havent found anything as entertaining from the modern games. (Ofcourse there is good ones, but still)
Afterall. Both are great games, but morrowind is the thing for me.

Hand to hand crappy??? I find that amazing as in my experience it's the most effective mode of combat in Morrowind. It's certainly the easiest way I found of taking out Vivec for example, in fact I considered H2H overpowered in Morrowind.
The one big downside in Morrowind when it comes to skill development is the unlimited skill purchasing available. In fact if you've got the money (easy if you exploit the Alchemy glitch) then you can max your level without ever stepping out of Balmora.
On the other hand I found the 'Power attacks' in Oblivion to be useless, and only usable by NPCs. This is due to the fact that the PAs are tied to the movement keys on a PC, which means that if you try to make a power attack you invariably miss, or at least I do, which may be down to me I guess, but why not use different keys for power attacks, there are plenty of them available, yet more bad game design unfortunately.

Frankly, I don't mind that at all. I found it time-consuming and sometimes VERY frustrating searching for locations; though there is no doubt it was far more realistic! :laugh:dragon wench wrote: I feel each game has good and bad points:

Couldn't agree more! Oh yes! They should shoot whoever designated axes as blunt instruments, and no way is the style of fighting with blades identical for, say, daggers and two-handed swords.dragon wench wrote:I also hate that choosing your skills is now severely diluted. Morrowind cities and architecture are nicely varied - but I really hated the heavy dull grey stone structures with the different levels, and the bloody-awful grey stone cities. Mind you, Oblivion Imperial City has a lot of heavy grey stonework with no windows...dragon wench wrote:Graphics?

Yup. Difficult to make 'em look attractive! I wasn't that keen on the Morrowind Expansion Tribunal, but I really liked Bloodmoon.

Well it was just my Opinion. (h2h)galraen wrote:Hand to hand crappy??? I find that amazing as in my experience it's the most effective mode of combat in Morrowind. It's certainly the easiest way I found of taking out Vivec for example, in fact I considered H2H overpowered in Morrowind.

Ofcourse it is usefull feature, and a great for roleplaying example; monk / assassin kind of character.
But I just found it so sticky to go punching opponents. I much more prefered using my unique artifact to take them down. And H2H wont have any magic features / power attack effects like in oblivion.
And same with the oblivion power attacks, again in my opinion.
I felt them really good because the side effects you get by increasing your skill in wichever weapon u use. For example the paralysis with blade Master feature etc.
For the unlimited training I think it isnt so bad, since the starters / advanced morrowind players even. Might not know the money tricks (creeper, mc you know the drill). And training comes expensive during time.
But surely it is lame feature for the people who want to power play. But as for me (I like to Roleplay) I dont use the training ability so much. Only when I feel I've earned it. / Or Im a person with so high stand and I would need to be more advanced.
But still you pointed out well. And ofcourse hand to hand takes out your enemies fatigue, wich is excellent add.

Morrowind + Oblivion = TES 5 : (whatever) ? I hope so...
Ahh man,is hits a hard question...
Although the newer gfx and "goodies" in Oblivion are realy realy appealing,I must say that I would rather see in the next series (TES V: Whatever) the SPELL MAKING and ENCHANTED ITEMS MAKING aspects as it was in Morrowind. Also Vampire WHERE DID THE VAMPIRE CLANS GO?! I know why they didnt put it,but still this was dissapointing. When you've read the books in Morrowind of certain vampires in certain parts of Morrowind, you could already see yourself meeting with those creatures of the night (kinda like Blade, lol)
The spell making was a big dissapointment,in that it was missing in Oblivion.
Morrowind realy encapsulated the feel of morrowind - a mostly desolate place, with weird plants and animals.Strange travelers and a huge world. Also,is it only me or was Morrowind a lot bigger ? Also the BLOODMOON expansion was a bit weird, but good nontheless.Tribunal was awesome - those assasins (the broterhood) actualy wore Shinobi Shozuku gears! How awesome is that?
I was also hoping to see more "oriental" armours in Oblivion as Morrowind had. Also the sounds of the nature in Morrowind was just freaking creepy... it was good, but the story development was a bit weird ,and i must say a bit boring also.It left you a bit "OUT" ,you know ?
Oblivion certainly keeps you inside the story and reminds you with those damn Oblivion gates opening. But seriously , what the hell - Oblivion gates everywhere.I hate those things!! I destroyed a few just because i hate them. There i am,strolling in a beautifull forrest...and i see a friggin gate. Its like your mother keeps reminding you of doing your homework every 5 minutes or so (back when i was a teen and didnt live on my own yet).
Does anybody think similarly than me? why do you think i'm wrong and also could anyone else tell me what would they want in the future series ? (with examples from Morrowind and Oblivion)
Thanks folks!
p.s.: i want some mini-games like GTA has...but without cars and guns ofcourse

Morrowind or Oblivion?
Daggerfall is best- has the best range of spells (and useful ones that allow you to fly and teleport to a set position). Morrowind and Oblivion you have to risk infecting your computer and download the cool stuff (although if you do take the risk there are some decent spells. that one from Oblivion which makes you breath fiery breath is cool!). Daggerfall also. Morrowind is better than Oblivion on balance but more buggy in my opinion.

Hmmm... I've heard that in many ways Daggerfall is a much more in depth game, but that it was/is extremely buggy, even more so than its successors. *shrugs*Acheronta wrote:Daggerfall is best- has the best range of spells (and useful ones that allow you to fly and teleport to a set position). As far as risking computer infections, I have yet to download a mod that has caused any problems, from what I gather the major mod sites are pretty rigorous about that sort of thing. Besides, it is called having good AV and using common sense. I always scan everything I download before installing it.

Well, I'm playing on an Xbox360, though I'm looking to buy Oblivion for my PC so I can get the EPs and mods like Kvatch Rebuilt...
Anyhoo, I played Oblivion first, because the guy I bought my 360 from sold me his games as well and it was among them - personally, I loved it. The only other RPG game I've played is Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, so it was a departure from my usual gaming comfort zone.
I'm one of those girly gamers who just loves exploring things more than any other part of gameplay, though, so I adore the expansiveness of the Oblivion world. I also appreciated how easily (imo) the controls were set up, and the fact that sneaking/thieving is just so useful! In VTM:B I usually play warrior-types and do a lot of blade and hand-to-hand, so it was refreshing in Oblivion to be able to win the game by sneaking, thieving, and long-distant assassinations!
Now, I'm sure because I played Oblivion first I'm definitely biased towards it - because right now I'm really not liking Morrowind. I'm not sure if it's because I'm playing an Xbox game on an Xbox360, but I find the controls clunky and the graphics clumsy, which together can be troublesome for gameplay. I haven't gotten to explore much of the world yet, though, but from what I've seen so far I am well impressed by how unique it is!
So at the moment my favorite is Oblivion... but judging from everyone else's opinions thus far, I'm wondering if the further along I get in Morrowind the more likely my opinion is to change!
ETA: I had this same opinion regarding Lara Croft: Legend vs Anniversary. I played Legend first and grew accustomed to how it's played so when I went to play Anniversary, expecting the same, I was disappointed because I lost some cool toys and I had to learn and new control set-up that I felt wasn't as efficient as in Legend. I still haven't finished Anniversary! Though I'm looking forward to Underworld... anyhoo, I hear pretty much only good things about Morrowind so I'm going to keep plugging along, hoping I adjust soon!

@romana86,
if you can, get Morrowind GOTY for PC
There are tons of great mods, and some beautiful texture replacers that make the game look almost as good as Oblivion.
If you want to see evidence, feel free to PM me and I'll send you some screenshots.
