Is Eldritch Prodigy worth it?

Post by Sykar »

Playing with the most recent unofficial patch I'd be really interested in Eldritch Prodigy History for my new Tremere guy.
I am absolultely unsure if it's worth it. From its ingame description it raises Thaumaturgy by one and penalizes my exp gain for every quest which gives me mroe than 3 experience points.
At best I can save 10 experience points for getting a 3rd dot in it at start. Funnily getting Infernal might be better in the long run since my exp gain stays normal and I get a discount on raising it.
I do not think I'll use Auspex or Dominate much but from an RPG point I do not like this history.

Is there anthing else to know about it? Don't I loose much more than I gain? I don't mind penalties but this one strikes me as rather severe.

Edit: Ok after starting my new guy it seems as if the additional dot is applied after all other increases instead of just the second dot at charcter creation which would mean that you save the last 20 points for level 5 so you just have to go for level 4 Thaumaturgy to max it out effectively. That be actually a nice save and maybe worth the decrease of experience. Maybe.

I was thinking about picking that but only for RP reasons.. I saw no reason to pick that since my build/character type would have needed all the exp it could get. But if your playing with only blood magic, then i dont see why not.
IMO the benefit isnt worth the penalties though...
so you get to start with blood shield... yay?

Oh well I started an eldritch prodigy now. He'll still end up powerful maybe missing 10 exp or so. I hope that the afore mentioned 'more powerful Thaumaturgy' aplies as well though it's only mentioned at the creation, not when you access your character screen later.
Read somewhere that it doesn't stack with the Galladium later but those where about older versions not sure if the author has left this power untouched in later patches.

In my idea all stories are reducing your overall power.
