Oblivion crashing during Quit process.

Post by Khaoz »

I've met an issue with my Oblivion.( with mods and without)

When I exit oblivion (completely quitting, no just main menu).
the game crashes. And this neutralizes the unsaved information for example configurations in options.

This is not a huge problem, but its rather annoying. Still I can play the game normally and save etc.

Game crashes about 5 times out of 10.
Running as adminstrator doesnt help

----
Possible reasons..
My RAM? 2gt -not supposed. But I'm using Vista platform so it might be possible.

One of the known problems with the game. That and crashing when you enter doorways, sometimes - but not when you exit. And sometimes suddenly crashing the whole machine into reboot.

Just saw this thread.
I have exactly the same problem with an XP system, maximum RAM, Core2 Duo processor and a good graphics card (Nvidia 8800 GTS, 512 mb)..

As Fljotsdale states, it is a common problem with the game, I've seen it mentioned in quite a few places now.
Ah well, at least this happens on exit rather than repeatedly during gameplay. Much as I generally prefer Morrowind, Oblivion is at least more stable. (or so I've found it to be anyway)

What Operating System are you using? I've never had Oblivion do that to me (I'm running XP Home, but ran it also for a long time on XP Pro). Crashes of any sort are rare (and I'm running on a below spec PC), as DW said, it's a lot more stable than Morrowind.

Have either of you done any cell or cache tweaking in the oblivion ini file?

XP Home, same as you. And my specs are not the best, but adequate. I could do with a better Video card. It doesn't crash to reboot very often. Maybe half a dozen times since I installed the game, a month or so after it came out. As it happens, it did it today. and, for the second time, when I loaded my save-game (normal) and fast-travelled to another location, I had a black screen except for the inventory which was normal. Had to shut down the machine and restart to get it back to normal picture.
I could probably do with having the machine serviced...

So it's really not the system, it's the game. Or game compatiblity with the system...?

It happens to me too. Ten out of ten times I get an error message upon quitting the game. This has happened in Vista 32 bit, as well as XP and on both intel and AMD systems with Nvidia and ATI video cards. I have stopped trying to fix it as long as it does not crash more often than once every ten hours while I am playing.

The crash while playing bug might be due to corrupt autosaves. You could try turning off autosaving and remember to quicksave (F5) often.
Also, there is a mod called streamline 3.1 which will help with crashes and framerate problems. It also has a flexible built in autosave feature.
