Duerger in Nashkel Mines

Post by Dilidor »

I have never encountered this party of Duerger in Nashkel mines until this time through BG1. My four-character party are all level 3, and the four Duergers are chewing them to pieces.

Has anyone ever encountered them before? I'm puzzled, since I've never met them until this time through--and they are WAY overpowered for my 4 neophytes.

The only thing that I've done differently this time is to dig out the Easter egg buried in the field in Nashkel, which consists of a suit of Ankheg armor. I equipped Minsc with that armor, and I'm wondering if the game thinks that he's higher level than he really is because of that.

If that isn't the reason, then I'm stumped where these deadly Duergers came from.

Never heard of this. Do you have any mods installed ?

I doubt there's enemy level scaling in BG1, and in BG2 equipment doesn't affect the level of random enemy spawns.

Presumably you're running Tutu, as there aren't any duergar in BG1 or TotSC.

I can't think why this would have happened, apart from a mod spawning them, definitely nothing to do with the easter egg in Nashkel though.

Ahhh.... now that raises a separate but important question regarding Tutu. I do have Tutu installed on my computer, but I am NOT running it. I'm running straight BG1 with the Sword Coast expansion.

So my new question is this: does Tutu somehow affect the original game files? Will it influence BG1 even when I'm not running Tutu? (The interface, for example, is the traditional BG1 style, not the BG2 style that Tutu uses.)

[Incidentally, the Duerger leave some amazing armor and weapons behind, when you're actually lucky enough to kill them. Massively magical stuff, way beyond the proper scope of a level 3 party... very imbalanced, but entertaining.]

OK I did some googling and found out they are part of a mod.
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.
