Help With Sword Finghting Please

Post by ve6tp »

Hi:

Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen sword fighting so difficult as in this game. So many options and settings. Need some explanation or help, at least. I'll give you an example:

My situation:
I'm Level 5 and roughly 20,000 pts. so just into the game.
In working on the Quest "Strangers In The Night" and having to fight 'Drowners for Haren. I've tried everything as far as settings and equipment selection are concerned and hardly make a dent on the Drowners.

I have "Temenan Steell Sword, (which says ineffective against monsters).
I have an Axe with 5-15 damage.
I have Temenan Iron Digar.
I've tried both Strong and Fast Styles using both swords.

So much confusing me. For that matter, are the Drowners considered as monsters??

So here is the question. I've told you what my situation/equipment is. Now what do I use for a weapon? Want "style" do I use with it? And anything else I should know??

Thanks to anyone who will give me some of their time on this.

Yes.

Your ordinary witcher steel sword should be able to do the trick. As for the sword style, they are susceptible to the 'fast' style.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

OK, thanks for your help. Maybe I'm having such a hard time beating any of them, is because I need higher level or experience?? Just can't come close to killing even one of them.

Use the Aard sign, knock them down, go in for the kill. If they're swarming you, try group style.

Use your witcher sword (and not the random axes and such you find). Use your signs (I prefer igni). Learn the herbalism skill (under intelligence) so you can pick herbs and make potions. Swallow potions will get you through a lot of battles.

For drowners, since you'll usually face 3-4 of them at once, I'd say use the group style.

Also be sure to spend your talents when you get them. Focus on attributes (str, int, dex, sta) first, then a sign or two, and then weapon styles.
