I just finished this game for the first time a couple of days ago and i must say I'm kind of disappointed at the end. In the lair of poquelin i lost both my mage and cleric and i thought i would be in trouble to get to the end of the game. But not so. My other four party members had a really easy time getting to the end and killing the demon. I played on the normal difficulty and would have expected more resistance of the big bad of the game. I had a lot more trouble with the dragon in hearth of winter. Anyone else feel like this when they first played?
my party was:
paladin
rogue
cleric
fighter
mage
ranger
anyway, I'm off to start Icewind Dale 2
kind of disappointed (Major Spoilers)

Well, that's because you did HoW first, the experience bonuses of which completely unbalance the first IWD.
Did you try TotL as well?

“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
no I didn't try Totlm. Is it worth playing?
If How makes the game unbalanced doesn't that mean that if you play through the normal game first your battle with the dragon will be much to easy?
One last question: Is dual classing worth it? As you can see above i didn't bother with it. Doesn't it make the game even easier? once my characters had gained a few levels I never had any real trouble expect for the Yxonmei battle and the one at the end of HOW

HoW doesn't unbalance either of the expansions as the monsters and fights are much harder, but it does so to the original campaign which was meant to be completed at a much lower level.
The TotL expansion is mainly hack and slash, just like most of IWD, but there are new items, monsters as well as puzzles to be found.
Dual classing loses its' luster with the expansion, though it was very powerful with the original IWD.

@jack828,
for future reference, please place a spoiler tag in your thread titles if they reveal significant plot developments. I know this is an old game but there are always people who may not have played it.
Thanks,
