Have you considered casting "light" on all of the creatures? If you target the tip of their nose, or something else with relative distance to their eyes, there is a DC 25 fortitude save (I think) or they become blinded for 1D10 + 5 rounds... low level spells are still useful later on :D
That being said, you said you were low on spells......

We somehow managed to survive. We all grew a couple of sizes, and just beat the tar out of our opponents. The final boss was ridiculously hard. I think we all ended up with having single digit hit points by the time we were done. Right now we're completing the campaign by tying up some loose ends, like killing off the bastards that managed to run away before we could kill them the first time. After that we're going to start up a new campaign, and have it be our current characters' children.

Half-Dragon/Half-Water Elf, Water Element bloodline, Ranger class (starting). Then going Half-Dragon paragon, and taking classes in the Battle Sorcerer.

With all those lost caster levels, Battle Sorcerer isn't such a good idea. Maybe Battle Sorcerer/Abjurant Champion is doable.

I'm only losing 3 with Half-Dragon. Ranger is Divine, and the paragon gives me levels in sorcerer (so the DM's allowed me to use the variant of Battle Sorcerer). The Water Elemental bloodline gives me a +1 spell casting level (minus new spells and spells per day of course) to both Ranger and Battle Sorcerer. The thing is, this is how our DM works. He likes "lost levels". This last campaign our last ranger/fighter, who was ECL 21, only had 8 HD. Dare you to try figure that one out. He honestly did have an LA of 13 between everything he had. Most of us did (except me with only an LA +2 and was considered "normal").

If your DM can work like that, good for you. I think it would be a hell of a challenge to make a decent encounter for such a character.

Oh he has to. He's usually the one that makes us into these characters that could die in one hit. It's a pain for us though because we know that the next dragon we face, will probably have 2-4 heads because he needed to up the CR on it.

He could up the CR by putting more monsters, instead of stronger monsters?

Yeah, but then that's no fun for him. He likes suped-up vs suped-up. Also, these stronger monsters tend to be our main bad guys that we'll face over and over again. Even when we kill then, burn them, everything them, they still comeback. Gotta love cloning, and ghost walking classes. Not to mention undead. No one ever stays dead in his campaigns. You'd think resurrection would work too, but that spell doesn't exist in his campaign (too easy to abuse it).

Eh, 8HD, 13 LA characters aren't souped-up. They're mediocre at best.

Yeah, but when you average 55 damage a hit, that's souped-up. My character averaged 20 a hit at LA +2. Everyone else did twice as much damage as me, and at higher levels they sometimes did that with eight attacks each, with the right items of course.

55 damage a hit isn't souped up, in my book. There's also the issue of hitting things, lost caster levels, probably low saves and low HP. Low HD makes you susceptible to some irritating spells. (I'm thinking of Deep Slumber and (Un)holy Word, for example.) I don't want to convict your playstyle, but mechanicly (a lot of) LA makes it harder for the player, rather than easier.

Oh no, I totally agree. However, if I get first initiative, and hit you eight times at an average of 55 damage a hit, you might not get off those irritating spells. I know about the low saves though. Our poor ranger/fighter had that problem. The only thing that kept him alive was his cloak of +5, and my cleric buffing him every 5 seconds. By yourself, you're probably screwed. In a team, you might actually survive. Unless the thing has AC 53, and you have no touch attacks. Then you're screwed.

I'd never play an LA race without buy-off, because of these reasons.

He doesn't allow buy-off. Actually, he doesn't allow a lot of things that'd go in our favour (like legitimate money rewards). But if we want to play, those are the rules.

Strange. Most DMs who allow LA races, allow buy-off and are very loose in other things.
It hurts if your DM is stingy with rewards. Gear (and thus money) is included in your power when comparing CRs. Hence the Wealth by Level table.
