My character - comments please

Post by Suneater »

I want your advice and comments on my first solo character.

Its a Dwarf with + 4 evasion and exp penalty and he starts at lvl 4, I think hes a grey dwarf., Anyways I made a illusionist then went rogue to lvl 3 then went warrior and tac'd on a 20 % exp penalty currently im 3 illusionist 3 rogue and 1 warrior. Is this build kick ass at later lvls as a solo or am I doomed? Comments appreciated!

Any class should be soloable in IWD2, so I guess you'll be fine.
Assuming that you're playing a deep gnome adding the second fighter level will remove the 20 percent XP penalty. Afterwards I recommend to increase only illusionist levels, the caster levels make the character stronger. You could raise your fighter levels to 4 for weapon specialization in a damaging weapon type (I recommend picking axes), but I wouldn't do it too early.

your right im a deep gnome, And I just figured out how to remove the penalty. I got another lvl into fighter and now its gone! Not sure why it disapeared but it is nice. I want to get 4 lvls of fighter out of the way but Illusionist is nice because of mirror image and blue and haste soon enough.

Btw my stats are 12 str 20 dex 6 wisdom 16 intelligance and 3 chr is INT to low?

If the class levels except illusionist (which is favored class) don't differ by more than 1, you don't get an XP penalty.

The more int the better, but even with 16 int you can still reach the 19 int required to cast level 9 spells if you raise int at every 4th level up (12, 16,20). Optimal would be 5 wis, 1 cha and 20 int at level 8, but it's not too important.

let me get this straight, you are going to try and play the game with only one character?? that sounds like an extreme challenge, as for your character, your combo of classes looks good, but I would be concerned about him having only 12 strenght, that will reduce his ability in mellee combat which could make life tough for you, I would probably rather have reduced dexterity than strenght. BTW what is your CON?

Edit: I just noticed there is a feat that lets a rogue use dext to-hit in melee instead of strenght, as long as you are using small blades, so I guess that would be useful to your character, if you didnt mind using only small blades in melee..

ok little update on my character.

My con is 16

I saved exp when I hit the goblin fortress and spent it to go from 2 fighter 3 rogue 3 wizard to 2 fighter 3 rogue 7 wizard.

Now in Chapter 2 with a lvl 12 equivelent character Im not getting any exp :(

I get exp from the giants that throw boulders but werewolfs and the ice mage give none. Once I reach the inside of the ice temple I should start getting exp once again. Emotion hope Haste Miror image and Blur and fireshield and soon ... stoneskin will make for one sweet killer. My only concern is monsters that are not affected by slashing damage so I did put into mace and once I get 4 fighter levels I will master maces and small weapons.

How high should I take wizard? I do want to take rogue to lvl 10 and maybe get fighter up some more for extra feats... ALSO

Can I import this character? I tried to but I only had the choice of lvl 1 premade characters.

Help and tips much appreciated as always!
