I play Bg2 on two computers - one of them is a pretty old notebook (1000mhz,256mb ram,8 mb video). Well,it meets the recommended system requirements, but still lags in certain places(for an instance, the improved twisted rune is a slide show.)though the resolution is only 800x600.If there is any way to make the game run faster on my configuration,I would eagerly listen to it.
The second problem is that I cannot use high resolutions on my desktop computer. When I set 1280x1024 or above, the game runs just fine, but the interface, all those icons look just as they are in 640x480.It looks ugly.
Also,I would like to know if there are any ways to set a widescreen resolution(1280x800 or such).
Optimization and Problems with high resolutions.
I think the 8mb video ram might be the show-stopper here. It may be an old game, but it loads a relatively large amount of texture data.
The good news is that a new video card for an old laptop is going to be cheap because only old models are going to fit. The bad news.. well, it's a laptop. There are probably a lot of restrictions to what you can replace. It has to fit inside the compact architecture, it can't produce too much heat, etc.
As for the resolution problem, see if it works if you turn off 3d acceleration. There are again some hardware limitations here that may prevent you from selecting these.
