Mods - Compability and order of installation

Post by Squee »

Ok, so I just decided to pick up BGII again, this time modded. I have both SoA and ToB. Before I start installing mods I know that I have to reinstall the game and patch it first of all, but after that I'm clueless as to wich order I should install in and if the mods truly are compatible.

These are the mods I'm thinking about installing, if you know any more must have mods, please tell me. Also, if anybody knows a mod that allows you to combine classes (like a multiclassed Monk/Sorc for instance) or any other compatible and balanced mod that adds more kits/classes, please share it with me :)

*BanterpacksV8
*Solufain NPC
*Valen NPC
*Fade NPC
*Quest Pack
*The Darkest Day v1.12
*The Big Picture v177a
*Shadows over Soubar v1.12
*AscensionWeidu v1.4.23
*Weimer Ease of Use v33 (mostly for the XP-cap remover and some minor fixes.
*Weimer Tactics v24
*Check the Bodies v1.9

If anybody has any experience with these mods, please do help. Thanks!
You guys are my best friends, we've always been together, we're four of a kind laughing all day and palling away, we're best friends!

The Darkest Day is very problematic, I've only got it to run smoothly once, and even then ran into terminal problems eventually, it prevented transition into Throne of Bhaal. It also fills up all available kit slots, so you should bear that in mind if any other mod you us needs to install kits. It doesn't help that all the kits in TDD are grbag4e either, however there is a tool available that will address that problem.

My advice is to give TDD a miss though, it was fun for a while but far too buggy.

Personally I found both Valen and Solaufin to be far too overpowered and cheesy.

I've found Amber to be a good NPC mod, as an alternative to Fade, he comes with her own kit though so would have problems with TDD. I've also been running the Nalia Romance mod, and so far that has also been very good.

This thread will do as well as any, I guess.

I have, after quite a while, returned to this hall of geekiness. And I've a question, quite like Squee's.

I had some problems with mods a while back. If I remember correctly the flirtpack made Aerie flirt with my main character almost constantly which made travel, not to mention combat all but impossible. Ending the romance was only a slight improvement since she continued to stop anything I ordered her to do, including spellcasting for nonexistent dialogue once every second. I think even uninstalling the flirtpack proved unsuccesful.
Quite frustrating.

Anyway. One complete harddrive wipe later I'm now reinstalling BG2. In what order should I install the followin mods? Have I missed something? Is some of these mods incompatible?

Official patch –of course (& already installed btw)
BG2 Fixpack (Gibberling 3)
Banterpack (PPG)
NPC Flirtpack (PPG)
Soulafein mod (weidu.org)
Xan mod (PPG)
Imoen romance mod (imoen.org) – if I can find it.
Possibly Nalia romance mod (PPG)
BG2-Tweakpack (Gibberling 3)

Edited after replies.

Thank you for any help!

Official patch right after the game.

The documentation on the Fixpack states, "In terms of installation order, the Fixpack should be installed after the official patches, but before other mods."

I typically install the Tweakpack last, because you want it to affect everything that precedes it.

TweakPack includes Bonus Merchants, so you don't need to load a separate mod for that.

Right.

Should the Banterpack and flirtpack be installed before or after npc mods (and should the entirely new npc be installed before I tamper with original npc's or the other way around?)?

I've received advice that new NPCs should be placed afterwards. Remember, though, that there are at least one or two mods which add banters between standard and new NPCs. If you decide to use one of those, it should clearly go after the installation of your NPC mods.

Naturally.

Right. I think that's all I need. Thanks a lot, Fable.

Right.

Now there's another problem. After I've installed all the mods except the tweak-pack, then I can't enter the tweak-pack setup.

"Setup-BG2_Tweaks.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost."

I get two options: Debug or Close. As far as I can tell Debug is not doing anything more than Close does.

Is there a common cause of this? Something that I probably did wrong.

PoF Mod

That is passing strange... no, never encountered that.

But speaking of mods, Paladins of Faerun looks interesting to me, has anyone tried it and what is your estimation of it?
