Killing Shadows

Post by rurikvred »

Hi, kinda new to DND style gaming, although I've been playing many of them for years. Never paid attention to the 'details"... now I am.

I checked the database and the walkthrough tips, checked for enemies and how to slay them (what do i need for certain creatures?)

I'm in NVN2, Tomb of the Betrayer, and I got the Light Shield, I am a level 6 Paladin, not much potions left, undead (5) and "kill evil (2) and my companions are a polymorpher, a thief, and a dwarf. My problem is that I can't kill SHADOWS. So I get my whole team wasted. I tried the undead, some acid (didn't have enough) but basically, I can't kill them.

any ideas for a noob? Is there also a link to the database where I can find out how to kill any other creatures?

First tho, need to kill those shadows! how!!??

thanks!:speech:

Do other quests and get your level up to where you have a higher BAB (attack number). Also consider the feat "Blind Fight" (for both you and the dwarf). Make sure you both have weapons with some type of elemental damage (like fire). The Thief will likely be worthless for this encounter (..but necessary for the trap detection).

Wow, thanks for the help, Scott -- you're cool to take the time. I guess I have to go back to a saved game, because I can't get out of the Tomb of Betrayers until I complete it. Arrggh!!! lol Unless you know of a way!

"Blind Fight"? Is that an upgrade?

Also, you said to do other quests first, but it seems this quest is up at the top of my list. I'll go around and check it out. Don't you just giggle when you get noobs asking dumb questions? I'm an expert in AOE2 and clan leader, but I try to help noobs out as much as possible, but some of the questions.. whoooboy!

Another way to fight a lot of shadows at once is area effect spells. Elanee can cast body of the sun and do damage every round for awhile. Quara can spam fireballs. Needless to say when I run with Quara I disable friendly fire!
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Yeah, fireballs are fantastic for this - they also trigger/disable traps. (..be careful of destroying chests and the like though - that can destroy treasure or at the very least "set" it.)

One method is to sneak up (hide or invisible) and then fire off the fireball. Another is to have a rogue with evasion run around as a lure and and then have a spell caster fire the fireball at the rogue.:speech:

Unfortunately the Tomb "locks" once you get in.. you'll have to go back to a previous save. :(

Blind Fight is a feat you can select at those character levels where you get an extra feat (1,3,6,9, and so on). Here it is:

Neverwinter Nights 2 @ GameBanshee

Opponents like shadows (wraiths, spirits, etc.) have what is referred to as a "concealment" bonus which is a specific type of "dodge" modifier or "miss percentile" (..which is often anywhere between 20-50%). If you miss hitting the opponent because of this concealment bonus then Blind Fight will give you another "re-roll" to see if you pass the concealment. The net effect is that you'll land more hits and kill the shadow more quickly with Blind Fight. The skills Listen and Spot at higher levels can help out quite a bit with this as well.

Tip: Note that Greater Invisibility can give *your* characters this same sort of concealment bonus. ;)

As far as noobs.. we all were at one time! :D

after my research. i found a way to slay shodows quickly.
use wizard character, with a empower feat or a maxpower feat.
go to death-god vault, attract 15-25 great shadows to surrend you.
then fire 3 level5:great fireburst .
it is absolute sure can slay all shadows in the screen in one time.

down to betrayer's door, fire 4~5 to slay all death-lord, elite vampire...

go to ice troll lodge, fire 4~5 great fireburst to slay all berserkers.

go to slumbering coven, fire 3~4 to slay all hags.

by the way, your companions can not survive in 3 rounds great fireburst.
----------another way-------
make your one weapon with +fire 5d6 and +cold 5d6
make another weapon with +acid 5d6 and +lightning 5d6
assume you have great two weapon fighting, you will be a killing machine...
(fighter20/weapon master10 with two epic weapons , i am sure you can slay any shadow in 1~2 seconds, even the faceless man)

delaied blast fireball -> 120 hit points (only 2~3 shadows hit )
undeat to death -> 267 hit points! (but i cast 8 undeat to death, only one hit the shadows, high miss=useless )
