random treasures

Post by mistered »

It seems that random treasures in NWN are not random within each location. It means that we can not use "save" and "reload" to get them ( as in Divine Divinity ). Most guides do not list these treasures; but some did name a few of them which were reported by emails from viewers.

I like to hear comments from you.

As I'm aware, there are a rare few relatively more unique items that are constant other than plot central items. Beyond that, most items are spawned randomly based on a preset "container-level"; where "container" can refer to any chest/cupboard (upon opening/breaking) or creature (on death). So you can save before opening/breaking chests/crates or before landing that last blow on that boss-creature to force the game to re-roll the item drop.

This works with the latest official patch as far as I'm aware.

There are a certain number of random treasures within each location. but mind you, none of these are considered quality treasures. Otherwise, the faqs would have listed all those quality treasures ( as in Divine Divinity ).

RMurtha's faqs list a number of quality weapons emailed in by readers, I just name only a few:

1. gemsword(great sword): bonus +3, electrical damage 1d6
2. shining light of Lathander (great sword): bonus +2, light normal orange, searing light.
3. blodletter(bastard sword): bonus +3, wounding, vampiric regen +2
4. divine fury (katana): bonus +3, electrical damage 1d6, stun 50%/2 rounds.

The above weapons have not been listed anywhere else including GBsee) and since they are outstanding weapons we all want to get them. But we just don't know where to get them. Is it reasonable to assume that they are not random within each location, but from many locations?

Such items are boss-level item drops, and are indeed random only from select locations, like named/prominent villains, dragons, an exceptionally trapped/locked container, or in some hidden room of a dungeon. These are what I had referred to as "high level containers".

If you crack open the game files in Aurora, you can see that the scripts for random drops of items uses a level range, and that there are a couple of such scripts ranging from poor (a couple of arrows or gp) to great (your list of weapons being a good example). So you can still do-the-"reload trick". These high level containers may drop crappy items too, but they have potential to drop these better equipment.

Oh. Do they come from some unknown bosses or locations? I still don't understand why they are not documented as in other games? Doesnt' make lot of sense to me.

BTW, are you GBS scholar?

Oh.. long break from last logon.

GBS Scholar? No... I don't think I know what that is... :p

I do not know if they're documented or not, but I believe that's what it is from what I can gather from opening the game files in Aurora and what little twiddling around and from various forums posts browsing around.

It all started from getting a good item, forgetting to save, then doing something stupid forcing a reload and not getting that item... then I decided to hack that item in instead and forget trying to randomize from opening that chest, and then testing it against more prominent characters, which eventually led to trying the Aurora and... oh well. :D
