Ants???????

Post by scousegit »

I'm very new to the game (PS3) and have spent the last 5 hours getting stuck in. I'm on level 2 with a 10mm pistol and a combat rifle and 4 stimpaks. I'm struggling to complete the quest to find the boys dad because of these damn fireants. I nailed the first two from a roof but when I get deeper into the town i end up getting fried. Any help would be much appreciated - I know I'm a newbie but constructive comments would be fantastic!

First off, welcome to the forums. :)

Secondly, this should probably have a "Spoilers" tag in the title so people know to not read it if they don't want to run into possible spoilers. (My post will contain small spoilers, by the way. :p )

Now, to answer your question. I'm not sure, but it sounds like you are fairly low level to try that quest. I'm sure you could do it, but I advise you to take on some of the starter quests first. That's what I did, at least. Go to Megaton, help Moira out with her guide for experience and items, fix the valves for the water purification guy, disarm/blow up the bomb, and the like.

In particular Moira's "Get food/medicine" quest (or whatever the actual name is) is a great starting quest that will net you some nice equipment. You run into some raiders at the super market, and they'll drop some guns and armor that will give you a nice boost in the early game. You can find Hunting Rifles and Assault Rifles, among other things. (EDIT: Oh, definitely complete the bonus objective, find the medicine, before talking to Moira and completing the quest. There's a whole room full of junk toward the back that I actually missed the first time.) Great way to start the game. :D

As to the ants themselves, if you really want to finish that quest now, you can try picking them off one at a time, from a distance, while sneaking. That's what I did, although it will probably be difficult for you as you only have a pistol. How I did that level was sneaking around with a Hunting Rifle and, from Sneak, while hidden, sniping the ants' heads, which usually results in instant kills.

In conclusion, my advise is to go back to Megaton and do some other quests, then come back for the ants at a later time. Good luck, have fun!

Thanks mate - (SPOILERS AHEAD) I thought maybe Moira was taking the mickey when she asked me to get radiated or head to a minefield so, after the Super Duper Mart expedition, gave up on her. I might head back and do some more of that stuff first. I was considering heading straight out to the radio station to meet this mad dog guy but that's probably not a good idea given I'm struggling with a few killer ants...

I have to agree with Kienan if your there at level 2, your there too soon. Go back and help Moira in megaton and get some levels and try again later. I got my butt kicked there at level 15 because I wasn't ready and had the wrong toys with me. Get better Boom sticks and some more levels then try again.

Help Arefu before you try killing the Ants.(theres a quest in Megaton from a Female character that will ask you to take a letter to her family, do that then try the ants).

Thanks for your help, I was starting to think I was just really rubbish. I'll head back to Megaton (keeping the stimpaks and ammo I got on the way in though) ;)

You need to be a higher level, or at least have better weapons. You should definitely do Moira's quests. If you do the radiation one properly, you get a very nice reward. And you'll find a

sniper rifle
in Minefield, which may come in very handy against those ants!

Brilliant, I was hoping to find one lying around the town but the minefield will do nicely. Just like to say, this has been the most helpful forum I've come across for any game - keep up the good work guys!
