Question about prestige classes

Post by kronnyq »

I recently went from a level 5 sorcerer to a red dragon disciple. My question is will I continue to learn sorcerer spells as my level progresses? Or will RDD learn his own spells?

Nope, rdd only gives your stats a boost, no extra spells. Red dragon makes your sorceror more capable of stading his ground, and above that the extra stat bonusses you get are superb. Hard decission, I know.

So I am not going to learn anymore spells after going to RDD? Should I reload and wait for a later level? Because I really dont have that many good spells at level 5.

Actually, it might be better if you start soon with taking rdd levels. Maybe one after 2 levels of sorceror. If you have mask of the betrayer, I would go for 10 levels of rdd. So don't reload.

welp i've decided to ditch RDD altogether because I want to play a caster.

i'm not sure what's going on with my sorcerer though i can't cast level 3 spells yet. I read you need a charisma of 10+ the level of the spell to cast, I have charisma of 12 +1 bonus so that's thirteen why can't i cast level 3 spells!?!

Don't take RDD for a caster you are correct. The main use of RDD is to augment a strength warrior. Usually 1 level of bard is used for example bard 1 (at character level 2 so you don't need charisma), 4 fighter levels to get you to lore 8. Then RDD 10 which makes you have tons of strength. TONS.

You only drop 4 BAB from that which makes 16 BAB in 20 levels or 26 in 30 possible. The bardsong gives 1 AB back and the 10 RDD give 8 STR for 4 AB and damage. So you gain AB and damage (and CON/INT/Charisma blindfight and natural armor and spot).

A good warrior build is RDD 10 bard 1 fighter 12 Weapon Master 7 which means you will multiply your huge STR and Weap Spec damage on crits.

Also some gish (caster warrior) builds such as the bard 16 BG4 RDD 10 with epic divine might Or even the Bard 23 (Hymm of Requiem) RDD 4 Cleric1 Fighter 2 With Epic Divine Might.

Its possible to make a sorc eldritch knight RDD Fighter and that might be fun too.

I made a sorcer 1 Pal 9 RDD 10 DC 10 build that was pretty decent. Epic Divine Might/ High Feint/ Lots of Skills/feats, High saves.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Well, if you really want a caster, you should put at least 16 in the primary stats, if not you wil be really really really bad caster.

By the way, how come you only have 12??

The DC of spells (eg saving throw on a fireball or confusion) is affected by Charisma too. Try a 16 and prodigal caster feat or else an 18. Sorcerors are good with metamagic. I suggest taking Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep up to 7levels at least which will give you improved Maximize and improved Empower. Add to that with 10 Red Wizards of Thay which will greatly increase your DCs. 3 Classes is enough but you could even take fighter when you get high enough level for autostill spells or even Pal 2 and get a bonus to saves. or perhaps Pale Master?

Nobody told me sorcerers needed charisma for spellcasting, but I fixed that with a nifty character editor. He's got 17 chr now.

I haven't seen these Arcane scholar of candlekeep and red wizard of thay classes, are they maybe in the expansion? I really didn't see anything as far as caster prestige classes except for Arcane trickster.

Oh sorry they are in the expansion (I forget that fact). For OC (to level 20)...What about Sorceror 8 Eldritch Knight 10 Fighter 2 (switch a fighter level for a barbarian if you want to rage and move 10%, or duelist to unlock tumble but make sure you end up with 16 BAB). Misses 9th level spells. Take a PM level and lose your 4th attack to get 9th level spells.

But if you really want to be a caster and have a impossible urge to fight in melee, why not doing a druid or a priest? But if its because of the sorcerer that you like much, yeah you should do eldrich knight, you will gain spell's and good *to hit*, but you wont be able to wear any armor, except in expansion when you are level 21 or higter, you take the epic feat 3 time :P .

I actually have no desire to fight melee actually, I figured an RDD would be a caster type because it requires a caster class to unlock, but I guess that's not the deal.

Another question....if I install MoB will I have the option to mutli class to the new prestige classes in my current game? Or will I have to start a new campaign?
