Problem with Neverwinter Trading Post

Post by Natana »

Hey all...

I've been experiencing a lot of problems just getting SoZ and the autopatcher to update. I've got that fixed. This is the fourth time I've started over from other problems. One is that only once in these four tries has Nevalle offered me the trading post. I don't remember at all if it was just asking him or if I did something first that triggered it. Either way, I don't know which command forces the conversation or how to use it properly. I tried runscript, but it's not working if that's the right command. Can someone please tell me how to make him cough it up?

Also, right about now is when the game crashes resoundingly when the party tries to leave the City. In this go-around, I've just "liberated" Port Llast. In the attempt previous to this one, I made it out of Neverwinter and then it started crashing trying to leave Crossroad Keep. I really, really do not want to have to reinstall...again.

Thanks. :)

When ever/ if ever I miss any part of dialogue, Ive just been reloading to recent saves. And not too long ago, I went to Port Llast - done both quests but the one concerning Umberlee hasn't completed  kinda wondering how you dealt with it. I've done the 4-part ritual but, idunno. (Im hoping its not just stalling -&- more that I just missed something :( )

And it seem's Im around the part of the game you're at - only Im clueless on how you're getting a game crash. Its only done that to me if I overcast on spells  I assume you've reloaded previous saves to pass off the errors?
That problem could be from either the game or the comp you're playing on. And Im leaning more towards the comp since the game does have fairly high reqs. Also, regaurding the patch - they've mentioned theres another one on the way.. hopefully that helps out when it gets out.

I'd try helpin 'n lookin up the script command - but I have that problem with my Toolset malfunctioning (won't run) :( You 'could' try looking here though - see if anyone else has a crash. ...wish I coulda helped more :o

Thanks, Mz_Trixter, you've helped a lot. I'll check out your link. Here's the latest. I thought there was a function in uninstall where it repaired given the choice. This one didn't, so I reinstalled it. Now I can't get the thing to update again. There was a trick I was told where you hold the shift key and click update or in this case, the box that pops up with it saying the autopatcher is updated (when it really isn't) and it would force the update. The first time it worked, it took a lot of tries. I've contacted Atari before about it and never heard back. So, I'm still trying to update the game. The rig I run on is a custom job that my now ex put together. He is a unix guru and knows his hardware, so the system isn't the problem. Over twenty years with him taught me to check regs right off. Got plenty of space and card power (GForce 8600). Asking him why it doesn't update will do no good at all. He is "not a game programmer" and "doesn't do Windoz." The last time I went on the Atari forums, some braying quadruped called me a [removed] simply because I play games and not tinker with them or know the language and don't know the guts of a computer program the way most folks do. No only that, but no one called him on his obvious lack of manners. First time I went there, too, and explained my obvious lack of knowledge and why it's so difficult for me to learn. I've gone to Thieves_Guild.net, but still don't have any answers. Going back to a save doesn't help with any of the problems I've run into as far as doing the same thing over. I just do things differently - except about Nevalle. :) Regarding the crash, the report said there was some line in the temp files that I have no idea what it means. I cleaned out the files, cleaned up the registry just in case, and then rebooted. I do know things get a little out of whack if you do a lot of things before going to Crossroad Keep. Had no idea what the Lady was talking about half the time nor what the bards were blathering about. :p But, the problems can show up even if you pretty much go straight to the Keep once you get to the Coast. I think killing the Worgs too quickly is a part of it. I know all the rumors get stuck once you've killed them. I no longer buy a Circle upgrade even if the bars are available until after I've done Port Llast. Makes the quests from the Circle spew out all at once, which might be a problem. The sooner the new patch, the better and the sooner I know why it doesn't update, the better as well. Thanks again for the input. Here's what I know about Umberlee.

UMBERLEE SPOILER

If you get in and talk with the priestess, you can not only get the storms to stop, but get the Platinum Pride sunk as well. I've never had a problem with either of those things happening. If you're having troubles with the sigil on the floor in front of the door, have your party stand and stay on the circles on the ends of the tentacles till the green lights come on, then have them stand on the ones that aren't lit. I always stick the lungs in the center as well as stand in the center. Dunno if that is the actual way it has to be about the lungs, but eventually the door opens to get into the sanctuary. You can't pick up the bag of lungs if you do that, though. If you don't want her to sink the Plat. Pride, your party will fight them when the rest of the guards start in on you.

Excuse me, but it sounds like you are mixing up two games here. I recognize Port Llast and Crossroad Keep, but have played the game 4 times and never heard of Umberlee, or the situation you describe at the end either.

Well, if I hear or learn of any other ways to help fix it I'll let you know. And another good point.. Most 'o these new games need 'fresh' systems to work with. So good call on cleanin yours. I usually do the same the first ounce of lag I get. But TBH, the quantity of quests hasn't really affected the gameplay for me. So far, the problems you're having seems like its got to do with the high game specs if it aint your system. Even for this new comp I got recently, Im tryin to keep away from programs OR games that sap memory overtime. (i.e Diablo II, Spybot S&D program)

Edit: Another thing you can do is take some time to an run anti-virus and Computer Defrag (just to make sure) and see if that makes any difference. If I were in your place, Id be freakin out & do what ever I could to run it right :D

It took me awhile to figure out all the puzzles :p especially the 'song' part of it. But afterwhile I got it  Although, I guess I forgot to save before like I usually do.. So I wasn't really up to takin in all that talk w/ the priestess. Won't really matter though, because I realized a BIG mistake I made this time around - so I'll have to restart ..again for my 6th time.. I read on some of the Trading guides *KEEP the Trade Bars (unless) you need the gold* especially after getting to the Sword Coast ...so yeah :( and I don't feel like takin the easy way out with the console :D Thanks by the way for clearing that up :)

Umberlee's one of the quests you get when 'Liberating' Port Llast.
> Undead Army
> Umberlee's Storm

Sorry, but this is all in SoZ. :) Umberlee is the goddess you can see about a quest in Port Llast and I haven't gotten near the endgame yet.

Thanks and you're welcome. I defrag regularly and run Panda IS 2009. The only games on here are OC, MotB, and SoZ. I have nearly 20g of space now from sixing old non-gaming files, so that's up 4g. Last night, I tried installing about four more times and tried to update OC first. It still wouldn't. I tried updating after installing OC and then MotB and it wouldn't. Couldn't force them, either. The final SoZ install said a file was being used and it wanted to know if I wanted to install and then let the file run later. I thought it meant it was updating and the screen just didn't show it. I canceled the SoZ install, thinking it would let it continue updating, but it didn't. I went to Bioware. Just got that post done a bit ago. Hurts to type a lot. It's a good thing I have a sense of humor, cause I'm frustrated enough to do what my dad always did when he'd absolutely had it with something...like an alarm clock...he flung it at an old pear tree we had in the yard. When it comes to Nevalle, I see in my mind's eye tying him and the Worg denmother in a bag together.

My only other frustration is that they didn't get the vo talent for returning npcs. :(

Hmm.. it looks like it's saving the patches/updates somewhere on your comp. If Im reading that right.

It does that with alot of other games - when Uninstalling, it keeps a backup folder for future uses. What I do in that case is long and daunting :( but I usually get better results ~ Uninstall the game and any Xpack's then when thats over, I search for the game folder for existence. If I see its still lingering I look in it, see if anythings left. I then scrap all of it (Deep Clean I guess). Then I double check to make sure nothings missed. I then restart my comp - run any necessary clean up programs - then install again in the specified order + patch in the end.

If nothing else helps, Id consider this as a last resort - aside from Clean sweeping the whole comp  which does take alot longer. Sorry that doesn't sound as pretty as you'd hope. But its all I can think of :o

Thanks. Reinstalling the whole mess...(does a credible Charlie Brown shriek which fades to a whimper) I'd sooner try and drink Khelgar under the table...and I don't drink.

I know this posting is off topic for this thread, but since you both seemed to have done the Umberlee quest - I'm trying to do the "Song" part at the end. I'm assuming I have to stand on the spaces in a certain order. Been trying for over an hour. Is there something I'm missing? I've just been trying random. Can't seem to figure out any sort of pattern.

Thanks. :D

When I did it, I didn't see any real pattern either - but I remember doing another puzzle similar in one of the first two games. Since nothing's in the room to attack you. I basically spread out my party. 1:1 for each arm/line. Even summoned to act as a weight. Eventually it turns blue -to-> greenish signifying its done, move on. It took me about 20 mins to figure that section. 'Bout an hour for the whole quest only to wonder if it finished or not... make sure to SAVE after that part though.
