Knockdown "assassin" build

Post by Valkos »

I'm trying to make a knockdown build for the single purpose of using it from stealth and in the round hit with as many atks as possible and the restealth to do the same again.

Ranger is the obvious choice and AC will have little usage for me in the sense that I need to kill hard and hit hard.

My question lies within the usage of knockdown. I understand it has a 12 sec cooldown from usage and then it can be provided again on your next atk. What is the mechanics of the knockdown? I've been reading up on it from places and on nwn2wiki.org and found that str is the major contributor to the roll of knockdown. I have also seen dex builds take knockdown, but I do not understand why, since str is the major contributor for the KD roll.

Could someone eloberate on this for me? Perhaps even give a few ideas for the build here.

Its just about Strength as in the WIKI.

People that have it with Dexterity builds are just being "hopeful". (..except defending against a Knockdown.)

Use the race Earth Gensai with 20 Str to start and keep "plugging-away" at Strength on level-up. Also, at epic levels use most or all of your epic feats as "Great Strength"..

Note that there are immunities - and that supposedly it can be parried.. BUT I've never seen a successful parry of knockdown on a high Strength character.

HIGH AC and Concealment (because its a "melee touch attack"), is the largest impediment to a good Knockdown character.

High Strength OR High Dexterity can block/avoid it. Epic Dodge can avoid it altogether.

HIPS is a must, and many situations are "in-doors" so a Ranger's HIPS probably won't suffice. An Assassin's HIPS will lower your Attack number and consequently your ability to make the Knockdown's melee touch attack.

I was thinking something along the lines of 26ranger/1sd/3swb.

At least that was my original thought. I would like for it to be a Gray orc. I love the huge tattoo Gray orcs can get and simple looks too cool to not be considered a Uber ability of any character ;)

I need 14 wisdom for all ranger spells. At least I think they are good enough to help one out.

After looking into the stats on the Gray orc I could only do 20/14/14/6/14/6 with my stats, so a 29ranger/1sd seems to be the better choice. This gives 1 more bonus feat as well.

29 Ranger 1 SD - better.

Fighter 24, IB 5, SD 1 - better still. ;)
