Various questions

Post by R4x0r »

I have different questions about the game:

1- Loghaire or Thorvald? Obv i hope loghaire is better, because I began for the 6° time the game (ooohhhh yeaahh, the one with the ogre? CORRUPTED!, and when exactly? At level 44, during the panari temple quest -_-), and finally got thorvald to follow me, BUT... i didn't know how to get him back, and like an idiot, i left him in the wheel clan. Then i discovered how to get him back, but it was too late ._., so i hope loghaire is better... isn't he ;_;?

2- Chucka. I've no words... no! i can't really understand why he doesn't want to join me ._. 6 times I play the game, 6 times he doesn't join me. This time i tried to do ONLY good deeds, i only killed the 3 thieves in shrouded hills, and stolen the keys from the various char in the game, instead of killing them (like the ogre who's stolen the painting in tarant), i have +100% alignment, i've finished the black mountain clan and the isle of dispair quests, but he still doesn't speak to me. I have 4 in persuasion, i have 20 charisma, and this time i chose the dwarf (up to now i've played half-orc, human, ogre, and now dwarf), but he still doesn't offer to join me. URGH. He's only able to say "urgh" (a large ogre stands in front of you...). Then, what's the problem? maybe he doesn't like Sogg? virgil? Gar? Why the hell he does not join me? I max'd smithy to create large elité platemails for these ogres... ;_;

3- mysterious dwarven gauntlets/machined gauntlets: I got magnus in my party only for the PSS quest, and then i got his mysterious dwarven gauntlets, that add +1 st, +1 cn, +2 dx on dwarven. And in fact, i got my stats boosted, but what's about the machined gauntlets? What does the BHD stat mean? Are these mach.gauntlets better than the mys.dgauntlets? I think no, but i want your opinions.

4- corrupted data. Ok, i think to have partially discovered when it happens: after i re-load a file (like when i begin to destroy everything, or when i try to steal something and i have to reload the game many times to get that item) for about 10 times, it crashes and the file is corrupted. I have the drog patch (i don't remeber if there's any "h" in drog), and so i thought that. Any idea?

Chukka will only join after you've returned from the Black Mountain clan, then and then only, not before, and not later in my experience. As SW Carter stated in his excellent walkthrough there's another requirement, but like him I don't know what it is. It could have something to do with your charisma and persuasion, but I think there's something besides that, race maybe, or perhaps you dialogue choices with Mr Bates. Sorry for being so vague, I have had him join me, but couldn't figure out what the key was, like you I was putting together an Ogre party, and I was fortunate enough to succeed, but I don't know why. I had been a goody two shoes all the way through, except for appropriating the Jewel of Hebe, so you don't ahve to be snow white.

The key could simply be having the necessary charisma/persuasion when you irst meet Mr Bates, even though you can't actually recruit Chukka then. Certainly having the requirements (whatever they are) at any time after going to Ashbury after the Black Mountain clan won't be of any use, because you will have missed your window of opportunity. At least that's been mt experience.

=(

btw, one moar question:
i read only now that in order to get loghaire join me, i had to speak of the stone and the shape with his son (4 persuasion required) and then "free" him from his exile, to return later and eventually add him to the party, but... i did not. The first time i spoke with his son i hadn't 4 in persuasion, and i couldn't speak of the S&S... so, is it too late to add loghaire to my party? Won't he join me after i reached min gorad? ;_;

As I recall no, if you couldn't convince his son to talk to you about the shape and the stone you can't get him. It's not just persuasion that you need by the way, you also need very high intelligence when you talk to the son, one of the inteligence boosting potions will do the job if you don't have high enough intelligence naturally.

It might be dialog to get Chukka.
I noticed when you talk to the guard outside Bates' mansion, you can ask about the murder attempt on Bates. Then the guard will say that Chukka took care of it, and you can ask "Chukka?". You can also ask Bates about the murder attempt, and he will say that Chukka killed the intruder before he could be questioned.

I accidently read this thread... I want to warn that, in order to get Loghaire to join you, you'll need an intelligence score of at least 14 before you talk to his son (in fact that is required to trigger the "stone and shape" dialogue option. If your intelligence is lower, increase it with a potion (those potions are sold in Ashburry, but I don't remember their name).

P.S. Tell me about those corrupted savegames :mad: I've started the game about 14 times, but finished it only once due to them!

how to pick locks

Since this topic is about various questions, I have a simple one. It's embarrassing, but I don't know how to Pick Locks. How do I do that? Where do I click? :o

First you need lok-picks, they can be found (try the bin outside Poon's in Tarrant). The pick needs to be placed in a ready box, then used from there. So once it's in a ready box, click on it then on the lock you wish to pick.

You just need 10 intelligence or above to have Ranvder Thunder Stone see that you're mentally fit to hear the explanation of the Shape and Stone. Also to be on the safe side, you should have three points in persuasion and be trained as an expert. I've done this a few times after gaining Velorien's Blessing, so the 3 points in persuasion was already a given.
