Aggressive Scavenger - Karma Loss!? *possible spoilers*

Post by Solusek »

Hey guys,
first of all, if you don't know about the random events in Fallout 3, don't bother reading this ;)

The following is for all people who do know about them. There is this random event, where a scavenger and his dog attack a robobrain. Even if I get the kill, the scavenger immediately starts threatening me to leave the tech alone and to "find my own robot", etc. And he's not only threatening like "go away or I'll get really angry", but actually threatens to KILL me. ME. Standing next to him in my Full Tesla Power Armor Suit equipped with an A3-21 Plasma Rifle....

Aside from how ridiculous that is, after a while standing next to the robot's corpse he actually does attack me. Yes, he does turn red, and he does start shooting at me. Now when I retaliate, even after having been hit myself, and kill the !"/$/(§($ %/&§$§&&& (§(/$(/$(§(%(/(§)%) /$/§/, I LOSE KARMA. What the....!?

Is this a bug or have you guys made similar experiences? You know, normally I wouldn't bother thinking about this, let alone post a thread about it. Truth to be told though, this ************ is really annoying me. I guess I don't take kindly to being threatend and attacked by bums with their dogs... even if it's in a game :>

You know that feeling when you just have the urge to KILL someone? Cut off all his limbs and then feed them to his own dog? Uhm.. Maybe I should've played an evil char after all.... :P But there's always a 2nd run... ^^

So long,
Sol

First of all, please don't use curses or profanities. We can understand your frustration even without those.

Secondly, what I have noticed, the Karma loss or gain is purely depending on the alignment of the NPC you kill, no matter if the NPC shoots you first or not. So, basically, it's not a bug, but just the way Bethesda has thought things should go. I agree, sometimes the karma loss (usually it's loss, never encounter the karma gained -thing when not should be) is not making sense, like stealing from baddies. But in case of killing NPC, if the main alignment of NPC is good, you get penalty in karma, and if the NPC is evil, you gain some karma.

Similar yet different

In my second game now and while traveling with Charon near the gas station with the vault we encountered a rad scorpion attacking a wasteland trader. We killed the scorpion and as I was about to take the poison glands the trader started threating us. I started to walk away and apparently the trader went hostile. Before I knew it Charon had wasted him with the shotgun. Don't think I took any bad karma for it, and if I did I didn't care. Thought it was fun experience in and otherwise fairly boring game.

I ran into this as well. But I just looted the bot and walked off before the scavie could do anything. I didn't stick around long enough to find out if he went hostile or not. I was wearing the same gear as you, but I had my Alien Blaster in hand and had Fawkes and Dogmeat with me(not that that has any baring on how that encounter works out). There was no loss of Karma for just looting and moving on.

I ran into the same encounter as Unclescratchy near Vault 106 and the Gas Station with a giant rad scorp and Scav. Did the same there, although I think I had to come down from above (fighting from high ground to keep from loosing Dogmeat) By the time I got down form the high ground the scav had wondered off and the loot was still available. So I guess the random events are just as random as the word means :)
