Healing NPCs

Post by Belthan »

I had Charon as a follower and he was totally kicking butt, but we were standing too close to an abandoned car that blew up in a firefight and he was seriously injured (one more hit is gonna kill him). I gave him some stimpaks but he didn't use them. Took him back to my Megaton house, told him to stay there, went adventuring on my own for a while, went back and he still hadn't used them. Is there any other way to heal him, or to force him to use his stimpaks?

You don't actually give them stimpaks. You talk to them, and if they're hurt enough, you should get a dialogue option about using a stimpak on them.

SWC
Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

I never got a dialog option to heal him either, so I fired him for his own good and decided to escort him back to the Underworld. Almost as soon as we got out of Megaton we were attacked by a Mole Rat and he healed himself as soon as combat started. I checked his inventory after I killed the Mole Rat and one of the stimpaks I had given him earlier was gone (glad it wasn't a deathclaw or something that might have hit him before I killed it). I guess he just didn't feel like wasting a stimpak while he was safe in my house.

So I guess my advice to anybody who has the same problem would be to take your NPC someplace you know there's a low-level threat like radroaches.

I don't get dialog options for anyone other then Dogmeat. all the others I keep at a constant 10 stimpaks on them like in classic Fallout games. Before combat they will heal themselves(or during combat they will heal themselves as well when they take damage enough to require the stimies) I have done this on 360 as well as on my Desktop and it worked fine both times. They wont use them as soon as you give them to them but they will use them. Dogmeat can't so Dogmeat gets an option for healing him but only right after combat (I have found anyway)

Have you tried sleeping in your bed yet? Sometimes my Followers heal themselves when I sleep.

It's really too bad your on a console platform. With the release of the G.E.C.K. and the many places to download extra player made content the game has really improved for enjoyment and replay value. New places. New Companions More companion at one time traveling with you(Had 8{or more}with me when I was testing the extremes of my machine.

Anyway not to grind salt in a wound and back on topic..... Try the sleep. It works for me. I also read somewhere(not sure where though) that sleep heals all companions and the player so you should be fine with just sleeping. You've probably noticed you cant always see where your followers health is at. I found that only in or right after combat can I see their health condition. Any other time it doesn't show for me and I assume they have full health. But I may also visit my house more then most to drop off booty...

hehe I said booty.

I have the same problem.. The only person i got the "You look hurt, use this stimpak" option, was with the lady you team up with in the side quest, where you gotta steal the Declaration of Independence..

Dumb thought

Have you tried shooting them with the weakest weapon you could find? Maybe they will use their stimpak then?
