Vorpaling - spoilers

Post by Cippa Lippa »

Hi guys

I jyst had the most amazing encounter ever in BG2. My party is very overkill,
R/C
f9 dual to druid D29
f13 dual to cleric C34
f9 dual to mage M25
f12 dual to mage M22
T12 dual to mage M24

I am playing ascension, tactics, tdd, ease, item upgrade, etc...

I was at the marching mountains and I was upstairs in Yaga shura's bedroom and I forgot that there was an army of fire giants there - mind that I am running the improved fire giants which are an ungodly pain in the ass even for my power party...

The army of giants show up and I'm like "oh ****"... but they are three so I think that ganging up on them should take them out before they start their fireball-healing cycle. And I kill one of them when other three show up and one of them is this fabled Berenn. Mind that I had no buffs besides stoneskins/ironskins... At that point I think "this is going south"

Then I kill one more giant and I head my whole group towards Berenn hoping to stop him before his starts casting some crap... my kensai13/mage takes out the silver sword (she usually wears CF + sanchu but the script of sanchu and of the fire giants collide leading to basic instant death to my character), points Berenn, swing the sword and...

swooosh - there the head goes...

Berenn couldn't even do one attack... That was the awesomest scene I could picture in my mind, especially considering my kensai is a cute little girl...

Now, I would ahve expected giants to be immune to vorpaling, especially Berenn

I looked into the descriptions and it seems the silver sword is different from the improved unyielding sword or the improved ravager as 25% of the hits behave as a finger of death...

Now, I am wondering is the silver sword is actually able to kill people that are immune to vorpal attacks... do you guys know anything about this?

Cheers

The vorpal effect of the Silver Sword is the same one that The Ravager and Axe of the Unyielding use, so no you cant vorpal...vorpal immune people with it.

Though if you wanna vorpal people a lot, its the weapon i'd use. While The Ravager has a 10% with no save allowed, most enemies fail their save against the Silver Sword, and Axe of the Unyielding has only a 10% also but with a -4 save, so the axe is the worst choice to go if your looking forward to vorpal a lot. Of course the chances also depends if your attacking with a whirlwind attack or improved hasted, if improved hasted then you can get like 9 attacks max while dual wielding the axe, compared to the 6 attacks you'd be doing with a twohanded weapon. With 9 attacks with the Axe compared to 6 with the Silver, the chance to vorpal succesfully would be quite equal when dealing with mobs that have quite good save vs death saves, but if with mobs with bad saves, then the Silver is the winner easily.
