Favorite RPG Of All Time

Heh, I love when people debate what truly makes an RPG. Whenever my friends ask me what an RPG is I have a hard time finding the words. Personally, I think my definition of an RPG is somewhere along the lines of the KoTOR games and the BG games. But as for my favorite game, I must say KoTOR II, so call me crazy. Maybe it's because it was the first RPG (but not the last) that i ever got into, but I always preferred it to KoTOR 1. Close close second is the BG series but I simply love Star Wars too much to have it replaced.

For me, nothing will ever replace the old gold-box AD&D games that came out on the old Commodore 64- Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, and Pools of Darkness. My first experience with computer RPGs and they were really fun.
My only frustration was that the C64 was on the way out when Pools of Darkness was released, so I never played it until years later.

Would have to be Knights of the Old Republic for really getting me interested in Role Playing games (I admit to being a RPG-nub!). To a lesser extent, Shadows of Amn was probably what got me into the older games out there for RPGs, including The Bard's Tale, for which I will always feel sorry for actually taking the time to play.

Chrono Trigger, no matter what
To me, that's the best RPG game ever... at least in that kind of RPG games... I mean... the elemental power, the plot, all the different endings, the first silent protagonist, the gorgeous enviroments, all that beautiful music... (sigh) ... just remembering all those good hours of fun...
Anyway, it's thanks to this game that I really knew what a good game was... and what an RPG really was about... though of course there are other games that might be considered better as an RPG (NWN, BG, Diablo, etc.), my absolute favorite will always be Chrono Trigger...

To me, that's the best RPG game ever... at least in that kind of RPG games... I mean... the elemental power, the plot, all the different endings, the first silent protagonist, the gorgeous enviroments, all that beautiful music... (sigh) ... just remembering all those good hours of fun...

The three best, in no particular order:
>Planescape:Torment - for mind-boggling number of dialogue options and sheer depth
>Divine Divinity - sadly, an often overlooked gem. Has the perfect balance of fighting and non-combat quests, and the single most interactive gaming environment I have ever played in. Plus, it's pretty funny. NOT just a Diablo clone.
>The Witcher - Would probably take first place. Never before have I cared so much about what happens to the characters in a game. And it just looks stunning graphically.
Diablo II gets honorable mention for being so damn addictive and getting me into the realm of CRPG's in the first place. But over the last few years, a good, deep story has become more important to me than combat style or building the perfect character.

Knights of the Old Republic: It was my "first time", and no matter how great things get afterwards, they'll never really reach up to how I remember this game being. Redeeming Revan... I was still young enough that it gave me warm-fuzzies, and made me a Star Wars fanboy for life.
Baldur's Gate II: KotOR got me hooked on Bioware, and BGII definitely fed that addiction. As far as endings go, BG II's left me stunned and wondering if I'd made the right choice for my character and his unborn child.
Morrowind: So dang much to do, it took me a lot longer to exhaust everything with it than it did to go through BG and KotOR and hitting all the side quests. Oblivion was a decent sequel, but more guilds would've been preferred.
Honorable mentions are, of course, Diablo II, Planescape: Torment, The Witcher, Neverwinter Nights (Hordes of the Underdark) and Neverwinter Nights II (esp. w/ the add-on of Mask of the Betrayer). These games were all great, they just came to me after I'd gone through my "golden age" phase of discovering all the wonders of character development.

FABLE TLC
Fable was unforgetable and uncommparable (even to it's own sequel) I loved the fact thre were lots of alternate paths between good and evil. the replayablity was great as well (that is, if you can get everything done in the game.) I was even still playing it a week before Fable 2 cameout.

It's gotta be Arcanum.
An amazing story-line with many twist and turns, a huge world that is extremely fun to explore, probably the best character system in an RPG to date, as well as an amazing array of choices and consequences. I've had over a dozen full plays through the game, and it never gets boring. The tech system is extremely deep, and the magick colleges are all unique and interesting. Quests are also extremely well designed, with only a small number of mindless quests. You can play the game as a fighter, gunslinger, magicker, thief, and so much more.

In order of when I played them:
1. Myth: The Fallen Lords
Not an RPG apparently, but a Real-Time Strategy (RTG) according to Wiki, and also on that page, interestingly enough, the pre-cursor to the Total-War series. I didn't know this until today! Medieval Total-War is my most played game ever. But Myth was virtually the first PC game I owned. It's got Knights, it's got Dwarfs, it's got magic, puzzles and combat, and it's amazingly good! I'd be addicted to them more but most PC's I try them on don't work and I was forced to give up trying.
2. Divine Divinity
This would be the first one I picked off the shelf that looked like it might be a game similar to Myth. It turned out to be an RPG! And I've played lots of Role-Playing games since, so it must have hooked me right . Good points: Go pretty much anywhere and do pretty much anything, huge variety of everything, and you can teleport!. Bad points: Some irritating lock-ins and a dungeon that crawls for forever and an ending lock-in that crawls on for forever. Loved this game, but it's far to epic to even think about playing again. A truly divine experience.
3. Sacred +Plus+
You can ride a horse and gallop around between towns! Otherwise fairly tedious.
4. Neverwinter Knights & Expansions.
Stunning, amazing, beautiful, engaging, puzzleicious and hack'n'slashing. Again, it has everything. Like Divine Divinity though it is such an awesome epic that I can't bring myself to go through it again. And anyway, the puzzles would lose so much shine the second time. Standing at the end of the game in your shining golden armour is a glory as divine as the Divinity feeling of ultimate peak character perfection. Generally linear though.
5. Icewind Dale I
Beautiful and engaging. Having six characters all your own to perfect is as time consuming as hacking the monsters and solving quests. A bit too much hack and not enough solving for a great RPG in my opinion. The best thing is that it's just the right size in length to enable you to replay it again and again with different teams and not feel like you're getting into much. The expansions add some length and fun, but don't equal the basic game for inventiveness.
6. Icewind Dale II
Much the same but a bit less of everything No.1 was even though there's more game - if that makes sense. I don't get the urge to re-play No.2 like I do with No.1.
7. Fable The Lost Chapters
Really enjoyed this. Every decision you make affects your character's development, from ultra good to ultra evil. You even get evil points for just pillaging those chests in buildings while no-one is around! You also age naturally and end the game at some point in old age. You can also fish for items! Bad points: Regenerating bad guys, may you never rest in your runs between screens Dodgy saving method which meant I had to cancel my game at age 35 because I had no idea what I had already done when I loaded my game and couldn't be bothered to start all over again. Haven't been motivated to play again, but it's was great fun.

Asheron's Call changed my life since '99-present. Its best MMORPG game ever hands down. I have tried 80% of other MMORPG games, nothing comes close to it. The most closest for me is Final Fantasy XI online. I have only played FFXI online for 1.5 years. You just gotta try Asheron's Call out, though its not free but only measly 12.95 monthly. Its less than 50 cent a day per month, and defintely worth it. You can try out free-trial if u want too though. It got best PVE system, PVP system and combat system , Skill system. Gigantic map to explore and it takes lifetime to explore everywhere and leveling up to 275 will take u 2-3 years to get to there. And I am still playing it even though im not 275 yet!
As for RPG, I would say Final Fantasy 3 with Terra, Sabin, Locke etc.. and its my favorite RPG game. I used to play original Final Fantasy(Chaos last guy), Dragon Warrior 3(Zoma last guy) before FF3 comes and then FF7. Then after that I quit playing console because PC wins it by far!
