Characters too busy to talk...all the time!!

I've installed the game on a new computer and I'm having some problems with characters being/looking busy, preventing me from talking to them. I've played the game many times on other PCs and never encountered this issue. Often the NPCs are important people i need to talk to to finish or do essential parts of quests. I've tried resting and coming back and talking with different characters, but it keeps coming up 'x' is busy...

sometimes i get a lucky break but it really prevents a good flow to the game. I currently have 4 or 5 quests hanging 'unfinished' all on the basis of a conversation that the game won't let me have.

Any ideas on how to overcome this?

You need to download and install the latest patch, if you haven't already. Check out Bioware, for that.
