Quest help

I've still got various quests left in my journal, and I've checked over these forums for help finishing them, however nothing seems to be working.

I've got the "Idle hands in Imnesvale" quest, I bought the boys ale and not their swords, and they didn't appear in the cave as I expected. I left the quest, thinking they'd appear later... and they still have yet to appear.

I've also got the "Meeting with Valen's mistress" one, I heard you can't complete this when you meet with the Shadow Thieves, but is there any way to make this quest go?

I would also like to know how to advance onto Chapter 4, this isn't my first time playing the game and I don't seem to remember what I did before [years ago]... I also don't seem to remember spending a lot of time doing nothing...

Thanks, any help's appreciated.

Edit: I've managed to finish "Idle hands in Imnesvale", the kids passed out in a section of the cave I couldn't see. :laugh: I found them, anyway!
I've been told the Meeting with Valen's mistress never goes, is this true?
Also, my brother told me how to advance into Chapter 4, so no help's required in that aspect.

If you meet Valen's mistress and accept her offer, then you can't complete Shadow Thieves quest and vice versa - if you meet the Shadowmaster, then you can't complete these other quests.

Chapter 4 begins when you sail to the Asylum, you must complete either of above mentioned quests to do it.

I'm still wondering if the quest ever disappears? I like to keep a clean, empty quest journal. :laugh:
