At the Party (your 10th birthday) you gain the comic book: Grognak the Barbarian #14.
The walkthru states that you lose it if you don't use it, but I have found that not to be the case.
Spoiler
True, in the Quest: Future Imperfect you don't have it, but it is either in your desk or in the cabinet (or somewhere in one of the containers in your room) at the begining of the quest: Escape!
Three times I've restarted, and twice I've found it in my room. The first time, I used it, and the second time, I simply forgot about it.
Sir Edmund:"Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?" Me:"It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."
The Entire GNR quest can be bypassed by simply talking to Dr. (Morgan) Li in the Rivet City Science Lab.
After talking to her (presumably during the Wasteland Survival Guide quest) She tells you where to go (Jefferson Memorial) and if you have already been there, she will tell you to look for Holotapes and such (There is even one by Catherine (Lone Wanderer's Mother)). Presumably, you can bypass her as well by reading the Holotape #10, but I haven't tried this.
The GNR Quest then becomes a Miscellaneous Quest, and a Different Reward.
Differences in GNR quest when done AFTER talking to Dr. Li:
Only the Normal Brotherhood of Steel Guards are there (At the door). Sarah Lyons & Lyon's Pride will NOT be there, altho the Behemoth will still be there, so it's a tougher fight.
Quest reward is the key and location of a Military Weapons Cache.
Thought you might like to know. Explorers can get some wierd things in FO3...
You can bypass half of the main questline if you want to, by just heading straight for (spoiler) Spoiler
Vault 112 and Tranquility Lane
. I already noted the different rewards for the GNR quest in the walkthrough.

I'm not entirely certain at exactly what Science level it actually starts showing up, but for the Wasteland Survival Guide: Radiation Quest, a Science Level of 50 gets you a Quest Completion.
You get a Reward as if you had gotten a level of 200 Rads (THe Rad-X & Radaway).
You LOSE out on the Wasteland Survival Guru perk (You won't have done the optional part of 600+ Rads) I think, but you do lose the Rad Regeneration perk for certain.
Suspicion (Not verified, btw): A Medicine Level of 50 should allow you to skip out on the Injury part, but again, I've not verified this.
My fourth time thru, and I'm still finding new (to me) things. I was warned that skills played a fairly big part, but I didn't think this much....
Every part of that quest-line can be completed with correct skill check. Of course, that completition only means the basic part, not the optional parts of each quest.

Tranquility Lane, Changing the Simulation route: One clue does exist. Betty\Braun sings\hums the correct tune from time to time. Simply Park near him (don't talk to him) for a bit.
