I've never manually adjusted heap size for any program before - always let the software handle that by itself. But I recently read that setting it to half of our total RAM can sometimes help performance. I've currently got 2 gigs of RAM, and when I tried to set my heapsize to 1 gig, I got an error message:
"Unable to allocate 1000.0 MB"
The game would not load after that. If you can find any more information on setting the heapsize, I would be very interested.
It's very easy to get flip with the Heap, but it's dangerous. If you force your system into the Page File, it'll become dog slow. While it's true that under very particular circumnstances forcing the heap allocation will improve performance, in general, you're trying to put out a fire with Gasoline. Unless you know exactly what you are doing, you're likely to do more harm than good. It's very much like the registry. If you know what you are doing, you can use it to great advantage. If you don't, you can kill your system.
From the message you got, I suspect you attempted to allocate 1Gb of active store, and you didn't have that much to play with.

Discipline Manipulation
Just as a matter of curiosity, has anyone managed to determine a method by which one can change whether the use of a particular discipline will result in a masquerade violation? Doesn't necessarily provide many practical applications for use, but im interested to know if its achievable nonetheless.

Did you check to see if you have your desktop shortcut set to Win98 compatablity, as I mentioned it prevents heapsize from working?
You can try a fresh reboot and try not to have any background progs running, the only thing I can think might be prevneting your setting.
Terradoss
A real fix no (at least I don;t know it) but with most Disciplines you can crouch to activated them with no violation, if your Hide Meter says your out of view.
I would love to be able to use Celerity without causing a problem, of course if I am moving 5 times the speed of normal does the average human really sit around trying to determine if I am moving too fast and then decide in a split second I must be doing something inhuman, there by causing impending doom and the apocalypse? :sigh:

Nope, don't have Win98 compatability enabled.
It's very easy to get flip with the Heap"]
While I do feel comfortable tweaking my registry, I've never really tampered with heapsize before. Maybe I should I just leave well enough alone. Regarding available system memory, the possibility that I just didn't have enough was my first thought when I saw that error message too. I brought up task manager to check system performance, and found that with my system sitting bascially "idle" I have over 1.6 gigs of memory free. I should be able to allocate 1 gig if I want to. Maybe if I allocate that much, there's not enough left to actually run the game?

In the first post of this thread 3rd paragraph has the correct links to the Tool and Instruction, just try reading some of the first post.

Ok everybody asking about these files we are using please get, Turfster's RED HOT TOOL
Don’t forget to thank him and buy him some beer, too.

This tool unpacks your pack files, i.e. pack101.vpk, located in your Vampire-Bloodlines\Vampire directory.
Edit
Appoligies the link is not working but it is not my fault, I checked the orginal (current?) thread and Turfster's link/site is down, possibly only temporarly, I will continue to check it.

hmm
i did it like its said here
in game i got a male malkavian
and now i wanted one skin a female malk
so i put the 4 files from female malk to armor0 and renamed it
but in game now all 4 armours are the ones from the female
(not the same, 4 different female skins)
but i wanted 1 female, and 3 of the male one, it changed all :S

Appoligies, as I mentioned someof this info is out of date, that method of using skins was actual very earliy after the games release.
Here is the corrrect/new method, all you do is edit a file instead of copying all the files to the directories.
______________
"As an example if you have a favorite skin in the game from an NPC and want to use that as your PC skin
it is no longer necessary to copy the files you want to the correct PC directory, you can do it by just
editing your Vampire\vdata\system Clandoc000.txt like this.
Here is my Malk skin I use Heather's Goth outfit, as it is arguably one of the best outfits.
"F_Body0" "models/character/npc/unique/santa_monica/heather/heather_goth.mdl"
"F_Body1" "models/character/npc/unique/santa_monica/heather/heather_goth.mdl"
"F_Body2" "models/character/npc/unique/santa_monica/heather/heather_goth.mdl"
"F_Body3" "models/character/npc/unique/santa_monica/heather/heather_goth.mdl"
"F_Body4" "models/character/npc/unique/santa_monica/heather/heather_goth.mdl"
"F_Body5" "models/character/npc/unique/santa_monica/heather/heather_goth.mdl"
By doing it in all 5 slots it causes all armors to be the same outfit or you can make each outfit, each of Heather's
or use a different NPC for each outfit if you wish. "

Thought this would a good thread to post this in. Over on the planetvampire forums, someone asked if it was possible to bind the Odious Chalice to a hotkey. I looked into it and first I thought it was impossible. I took another look today and got it figured out.
You can't do it in the hotkey menu. You have to create a custom hotkey using the bind command. Once you have acquired the chalice, open the console and enter a command similar to the following:
bind o occult_regen_trigger
You can replace the "o" with whatever key you want to use to activate the chalice. I chose O for Odious.
If you want to have the chalice right from the start of the game, it's item code is "item_p_occult_regen," so the command to get it would be give item_p_occult_regen.

Execellent idea, Anaximander.
Did you try to get it to showup in the Hotkey menu (default K), I wonder if it can be done?
I just finished the 2.6 playthru, so I may wait till 2.7 to try it.
One last real bug in the game is that damn wooden bar on the Temple door during endgame, soI am trying to get Wesp to remove it, since he has pulled out his map editor for the upcoming 2.7 patch.

Oh, I spent hours trying to figure out how to get the chalice to appear in the hotkey menu. It's possible there are some item flags that determine if items appear in that menu or not, but without some sort of translation of the item flags it's just guesswork.Acleacius wrote:Execellent idea, Anaximander.

I couldn't find any files or scripts anywhere that modify the hotkey menu either. It's probably controlled by the source code.

Can you tell me the numbers that i need to put in each one(boost, maxspeed, immediate, in boost is 25 like you said) to make the normal jump???ive puted the ones that are here, but now i whant to put again the normal jump...but i dont remenber what were the numbers :S...Acleacius wrote: Super Jump
Here are the functions that effect jump, located in the config.cfg
sv_jump_boost "100.0"
sv_jump_maxspeed "350.0"
sv_jump_boost_immediate "1"
Normal jump is about 25 if I remember at a 100 where I have mine I jump as high as streetlights.

I'm using Wesp's 5.9 unofficial patch, and it doesn't seem to work like that, for me. It could be just my game, it could be the patch, or something like that. I'll have to post on that subject and see if anyone else has a similar problem as I do.Who Cares wrote:One extra thing for the people who read books in the game.
If you sell the book you can buy it multiple times.

Hmmm, I just looked at the book files and while I always wanted to prevent this exploit, I can't see a difference there between earlier versions of the patch...Kalidrev wrote:Yeah, for some reason, on Wesp's latest patch, I have been unable to sell and buy multiple copies of books (or anything else for that matter). Are we missing something Wesp, or did you take this option out?
Thanks Wesp (You're the greatest!)
Interesting. I didn't realize it was an exploit. I remember being able to do it ever since I bought my boxed copy of the game, so I though you were supposed to be able to do that, lol. While we're on the subject of your patches and little things within... I have noticed that for some reason (I'm running 5.6 btw), I cannot "grab" anything and move them. This caused one heck of a nasty time for me in the abandoned hospital as I accidentally got trapped behind a ladder in the corner of a room. I could open the nearby door, but I couldn't grab the ladder to push it off of me. Took me a solid five minutes of random movement and attacks to push it off of me. Wish I had known about the noclip console command then! Is this simply an anomaly on my system, or have you heard of this before?

I think it's a problem exclusive to you.
I'm running through Bloodlines again and am having no problems in grabbing items.
