I'm a veteran of several BG2 run throughs, and now I have installed IWD and two expansions in the hope that it will be even partially as good. Here's where you can help:
1) I like playing BG2 without ranged weapons, because they make the game too (ch)easy - is this feasible in IWD? (I dont mind a challenge)
2) There is a mod which 'allows level 8 and 9 spells to be written to the spellbook'. You mean without this mod, all 8 and 9 spells can only be read from scrolls? Even with HoW and Trials installed? So I am tempted to install this mod, unless someone recommends otherwise...
In general I am intending to 'role-play' instead of trying to powergame, and I'm grateful if anyone can answer the questions before I start!

1.) Yes, it is possible to beat the game without ranged weapons, even when soloing as a non fighter.
