in need of a tank (?) (possible spoilers)

Post by TheDude »

hi i play with my import char form bg1 a dwarven multiclass f/c 19/18/20/11/21/7 (18 with the ring)
I want to have aerie, edwin, mazzy and jan (never played with mazzy from the start, jan is a good thief and i simply love edwin and like aerie :D )
In my party are mazzy jan aerie jaheira and minsc, i want to drop minsc and replace him for edwin after the shadow thieves quest. (because they don't work well together).
I like korgan but i want to keep Aerie (so exit korgan). So do i even need an extra tank or are jaheira and mazzy good enough of backup for my main tank my F/C??

i'm not a big fan of jaheira, she does give some nice quests but she is replaceble.
i'm playing a vanilla game but some nice mods sugestions are welcome too.

Between Mazzy and your Fighter/Cleric you should have no problems. Later in the game, you could even use the other three members as tanks.

Heals aside, with two clerics you have a good amount of buffs to use on yourself and Mazzy. Aerie could serve as a tank too, with her self-buffs and Jan will become the most damaging NPC in the game after you can cast level nine spells.

I assume you're not planning to take your little sister along then?

You'll need to protect your 3 mages, so i guess two characters that can go melee would be good.
Have you already thought about how to play Mazzy? She comes with high mastery (or even grand mastery?) in short bows, so i guess it depends a bit on whether she'll be fighting at range or in melee. She's a halfling, which means good saves, and she can carry all the armor you want, so she can do tanking business as well.

If you want to use Mazzy chiefly from range, consider another tank. One melee fighter having to guard 3 mages and one archer might be difficult. On the other hand, if you want to put Mazzy in melee more often, you could easily go with that party of 5 I think.

I know you are running a vanilla game, but if you are concerned about conflicts between party members you might also want to check this mod out:

Extended Banters

"includes a component which expands the NPC conflicts, allowing the PC to intervene or encourage the fights which occasionally break out between the characters!"

"The Conflict Revisions component includes conflict revisions, which allow the PC to intervene before NPC disagreements turn ugly. It revises the following conflicts:

* Edwin/Keldorn
* Edwin/Minsc
* Edwin/Valygar
* Keldorn/Viconia"

Jaheira is a good tank because of the ironskins spell. She can't do as much damage as some of the other options until she catches up in levels (multiclass xp). but druids at first have a nice leveling curve and it doesn't take long to get ironskins. I would have Mazzy in front except for some situations like taking out iron golems with tansheron.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
