Minsc's starting proficiencies?

Minsc's starting proficiencies?

I looked a lot on teh webz and couldn't find anything, I think I screwed up my building of Minsc because I actually thought he had two handed weapon proficiencies until like level 6 or so. Now I think he should be dual wielding as 2handed would be a waste of points but I don't know his starting proficiencies. I need those to know how many points I can spend on weapon profs without, technically, cheating.

Too complicated? :D

Realizing my mistake I edited him like this, as I was not sure how his proficiencies began, I'm hoping this is technically not cheating (honest mistakes :P ). He's level 6 now. 1 point in 2h swords.

Rangers start with ++ in 2 weapon style and 4 points to spend freely. They get an additional proficiency point at level 3,6,9 ...
So a level 6 ranger has a total of 8 proficiency points, 2 of them in 2-weapon style.
So the number of proficiency points spent is correct, but BG2 rules don't allow rangers to spend more than ++ for anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that you can give them *** in dual-wielding, otherwise you are correct about the ** maximum.

Yeah, without editing I had him with 3 points in two weapon wielding but couldn't raise the specific weapon proficiencies over 2. In any case, thanks ;)

Why do people insist on saying he should be wielding a 2handed weapon when his proficiencies are so clearly established from the start?

In original BG long swords and 2-handed swords use the same weapon proficiency. There are no weapon style proficiencies and you cannot dualwield.
Minsc uses a 2-handed sword when you meet him and this is the weapon which fits to him best, a big idiot with big weapons.

BG2 introduced fighting with 2 weapons, and since rangers can dualwied according to AD&D rules they get two free proficiency points.

In original BG2 rangers couldn't get +++ in dualwielding, so either Tutu doesn't follow the original rules or you've another mod installed.

Just Tutu and the water degreenifier. I think Tutu uses the rules and graphics from BG2 or something, don't know.

Also, since I don't want to start lots of threads at once, I had another question.

Should I be saving the stat giving books for BG2? I don't know if you can import items or just the character itself with no items at all. I ask because giving those to the 'end-game' characters (being bg2 the 'end') would be considerably smarter than giving my paladin more useless wisdom and int.

I'm afraid that you cannot use them in BG2 so you might as well use them now.
One way of using them is to use play in multi-player mode and have two characters instead of the one. That way you can import two characters into BG2 Char1 and Char2.
Otherwise use them on your Paladin. Extra Intelligence can be useful against mindflayers in BG2. Extra Wisdom boosts lore so they aren't completely wasted.

Yes, and that's why he recieved the "free" two points in Two Weapon Fighting the moment you installed Tutu. But since he also starts out proficient in Twohanded Swords (if my memory serves me right) you can choose to ignore this and play him, old-school style, as a man with a big sword.
