What is a good rpg to play online/offline(network) with just a couple people?

Post by jonojo »

I have 2 computers networked in 1 room and I've been looking for an rpg to play with other people in my house. I can even be 2 people on 1 computer, but I prefer something with the ability to connect to someone else's computer online over the internet or through a network. I don't want a mmorpg because those always have to many people. It has to be free and it can have character building and story or both, preferably. I've looked around alot but i'm not good at this. Any suggestions?

I don't know any free RPG that suits your description, but if you are willing, you and your friends, to spend approximately $20 on Neverwinter Nights Diamond, you will get tons of free modules on top of the game.

Welcome to GameBanshee by the way!
Dr. Stein grows funny creatures, lets them run into the night.
They become GameBanshee members, and their time is right.

If you already own those, then Baldur's Gate series and (I think) Icewind Dale series would be good to check out. And you can basically get them very cheapily, so if you have to buy those it won't require much money.

I'd second all of these suggestions. BG and BG2 make great games for two people if you want story-driven games with good combat. IWD, NWN, and IWD2 would serve your specifications well too if you were looking for more combat related RPGs.
