other than doing this quest in chapter 7 everything went smoothly up to the point of killing the Eye.....
I got the complete rod and the Eye appeared, used the rod on it and killed it easily but one of my characters fell in the first few seconds of battle. Feeling that it was a shame to not get the 30k xp for that character i reloaded and went to kill it again. My save being right after the rod was assembled...now hears the prob...the Unseeing Eye never showed up again. My save was after I picked up the rod but before the Eye showed...I have spent almost 20 days searching for it so i can kill it and finish the quest but it never shows I tried many things such as placing the rod in treasure caches around the area and leaving but the sucker is nowhere to be found!?
any one had this prob and can help I'd be stoked.....
You may have a problem with your savefile or something the like. But try this: Go upstairs and kill Gaal. A knight will appear to warn everybody that "the slayer of Gaal has come". Anyway - that's the easy way to finish that quest. Just kill gaal and have someone with a low saving throw vs spells and above 90 hitpoints.
Consider leaving the area, @Fud, and returning, to see if the Unseeing Eye has respawned.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
This is actually a know bug, kevin addresses that in the balderdash site, if you look carefully thru the patch descriptions, if you save jsut before assembling the rod and relaod that game, you can break the quest chain, go back one earier save, and you'll be ok.
welp...Silvanerian's suggestion worked excellent thnx...I never kill civilians for fear of losing my reputation so I would have never finished this...
and if anyone is wondering...when you attack Gaal (not having killed the Eye and having returned the rod) to my suprise it appears...I killed the Eye without the rod and disposed of all Eye cultist without a prob...Quest finish and rewards recieved
By the way, did you return the unused rod to the avatar of Amaunator? If you kill the beholder with the rod and return it as the avatar whats you to, you get around 50000 XP - and make a lot of unhappy soul happy.
welp...no i didnt kill the Eye with the rod....it had already been returned. I was wundering if this would mess me up but not at all...the beholder is just as weak without the rod
Anyone ever tried taking the rod out of the sewers? I did, once. I had my clone use his copy on the Unseeing Eye, so I still had it.
The description is not kidding...

I did it once by accident. I totally forgot about returning the rod and I had just thrown it into my bag of holding

It's nothing spectacular, but let's just say that it involves watching a movie of a disintegrating hand.
